Hi there
So this is the end of month 2 for me and so far for exercising I've been doing Wii Fitness Zumba and I LOVE IT!
That being said, I need to change things up a bit - I'm getting bored, a little disheartened because I need to lose quite a lot of weight, etc.
I keep hearing about Insanity but I'm not even sure who makes it, what is it - dvd, complete program, etc.?
So I want to get some advice - I'm just getting into shape, I'm not super athletic nor am I super flexible - I want to be want to get stronger and more flexible but most importantly need to loose about 100 lbs - what are some of your favorite DVDs, exercise programs, etc.
I don't want to join a gym again because honestly I don't end up using it... I'm really enjoying doing it in my own home in the middle of the day for my lunch break (work from home).
Also, is there a way (online) to preview some of these programs before I spend the money buying them. I'm trying to make wise, acheiveable financial decisions regarding my exercise.
Thanks so much for the advice!

Couple of things...
What kind of cable do you have? A lot of them have fitness tv on demand... I have comcast, and in the tv on demand there's an entire exercise tv section that will let you try out workouts for free. Might be a nice way to get some to get you an idea of what you like.
Insanity and P90X are somewhat similar programs that incorporate serious strength training and cardio on a pretty strict regime. If you're just getting started on stuff, I'd wait to start these... I just started P90X on Tuesday and its kicking my butt.
If you're looking to up flexibility, get a yoga dvd... I have a couple from Denise Austin that were good starters -nothing too insane or difficult, but I"m so much flexible because of it. I did Jillian Michael's 30 day shred, which was a really great way to work up my strength and endurance. Its set up so that you are doing strength, cardio, and ab moves in cycles.
I have a friend who swears by the biggest loser workout dvds... When he started this he was over 300 pounds and is now down to about 250, and those are what he has been using.
Congrats on being at it for 2 months!0 -
Hi I know beachbody.com is where insanity, p90x, turbojam and some others come from. That is where most of the information about those programs are. However, there is a website called collagevideo.com and its really great because they have tons and tons of dvds that have a preview clip on each so you can kind of get a feel for the workout. There are probably more but that's the one I use. Very informative reviews too!
Insanity is very very intense I've heard and I believe its a program of several weeks, so is p90x.
I think you should start with Jillian michaels 30 day shred. Its 20 minutes (closer to 30 with the warm up cool down) but its very effective and will really help build up strength and burn calories. I love all of her stuff but thats the best to start with in my opinion. Just keep it up and you'll be fine! Hope this has helped0 -
Hi! I was so excited to find that Hulu has a fitness channel! If you have internet access you can check out some of their vids. Good luck!0

Don't let the name fool you - but a book called "The Truth About Six Pack Abs" is really great. It talks about exercise and nutrition and the importance of both. He backs up his recommendations with scientific data (if you're into that kind of thing). Some of it may look intimidating to people who don't go to a gym, but just start out slow. There are enough exercises to mix it up so you shouldn't get bored. Its worth a look in my opinion.0
