You could possibly retain water if you do a lot of strength training. The muscles hang onto water while they go through the repair process.

I have definitely found this to be true. Your sore muscles will retain water. Drinking lots and lots of it will reduce this some, though.

The last chance workout is probably one of the most deceptive things on Biggest Loser. All it achieves is that is dehydrates contestants just before they are weighed. In fact the ranch is in a very warm location and not air conditioned in the gym from what I have read, so that dehydration could be quite extreme.

If you workout hard just before your weigh-in and drink the water you need to keep hydrated it will increase you weight, and very hard the day before may result in you retaining water. If you are in reasonable shape and workout hard usually, you may not retain water though. Either way, it will likely not help your numbers to any great extent.

I am in a weight loss challenge with my Zumba class. I weigh after the class on Mondays around 7 PM. That also happens to be my weigh in day for MFP. I weigh in at 9 am for that. I always weigh less after Zumba than I do when I weigh in the morning. I think it is because I am a little dehydrated after class

Oh really, I had no idea! I usually weigh myself every saturday morning, Ive edone it since new years and last week I exercised on the friday morning and evening, which was a first for me... I have been loosing on average 1lb per week, but when I weighed in I lost 2lbs! So I reckon it must be different for different people as it worked no problem for me last week!! But thanks for the education, its something to bear in mind! :))

The water retention of muscles is more pronounced when you have muscle soreness. I have only experienced it when I have made huge changes in my workout. I switched recently to almost all metabolic resistance training, and my muscles were very sore the days after my workouts. That lasted for almost 2 weeks, and I did find when they were sore my weight was up, but once the soreness went away, the weight dropped as well. I have never had it just because of doing an extra workout, although if you did an extra workout at a much higher intensity than you usually do, don't be surprised if your weight goes up a bit. Again, it doesn't happen with everyone, nor does it happen every time.
