I'm not diabetic, but there's a lot of it in my family. My mother was diagnosed about 15 years ago and then went on atkins, and her diabetes went away. I'm not saying it'll "cure" you- but it worked for her. She eats lots of meat (her favorites are chicken, fish, and steak), tons of vegetables, and cheese. She eats almost exclusively whole foods (nothing processed), and she's very healthy and happy. She's 60 years old and in the summer bikes 40 miles a day average!

Grilled chicken, fish, low-fat cheeses, eggs. Make sure your carbs are whole grains and fruits and veggies and have plenty of fiber int hem so you get the most out of them.

In your case I think seeing a nutritionist would be a very good idea. You need to be educated about your nutrition requirements as a diabetic. I also encourage you to read as much as you can from reliable online resources like those offered by the diabetes association.

I feel for you! Just had my own glucose test the other day, and I'm "pre-diabetic". My first meeting with the nutritionist is next week. I'm hoping to learn how to lower my blood sugar through a healthier diet. I think starting here at MFP was a great start!!

I am type 2 Diabetic, have been since 2005. M family physician thought he could treat it with pills alone, which worked until this past year and I started having liver counts and sugar go up. I am finally under the care of a Endocrinologist ( diabetes specialist) and a nutritionist . I had to go temporarily go on insulin back in December and I am hoping on April 8th when I go back to the doctors he will start weening me back off of it. My nutritionist is trying to get me to stay around 1200 calories and 120 carbs per day. It has been very difficult and I am slowly getting there. My diary is public and you are more then welcome to take a look at it. In my food notes I just started recently making note of what my sugar counts are, because my nutritionist looks at my account and tells me how to make tweaks according to what she sees. If you have any questions feel free to ask, I am no expert and I am still learning myself but I will share my experience with you!
    Good Luck!

I have lost31 pounds so far!
