Hi Everyone,
I hurt my back pretty bad today doing my housework (I moved appliances) I hurt my back really bad. Doc says I can't work out for awhile. I am terrified that I am going to gain the weight back that I have been working so hard to lose, as well as gain the inches and BMI. Is this possible..I am on bedrest for 1 week.
Any and all advice is hugely appreciated!

Thanks and good luck to everyone on their journey!!
Barb

You're just going to have to eat REALLY really well to not gain weight. You hurt your back... can you do leg lifts or bicycle stuff with your legs while you're in bed to get your heart rate up? You could try it!

If you eat healthy, and you don't go over ur calories, you should be able to maintain your weight, maybe lose some weight. I know people who just eat healthy and don't work out much, and they still are losing weight. Hope it works out for you!
  • try to eat minimum of 1200 calories. You are going to burn some just by being alive. Drink a lot of water to keep off water weight and to flush. Stay to foods that are the healthiest...lots of veggies.
Sorry to hear about your back. I sure hope it gets better soon.

I had the same worry when I got really sick a couple weeks ago and couldn't work out. I was just really careful to eat clean and stay right under all my goals and guess what...I LOST 3 pounds that week. It CAN be done....you can do it!!! I sure hope you feel better soon, though...I've been there with a back injury and I feel for ya.

MFP's calorie goals are set for you to lose weight without any exercise taken into consideration anyway, that's why on here it's suggested to eat back your exercise calories.
Your goals if you're using MFP supplied ones are set to the rate of weight loss you indicated... which could be maintaining, losing 0.5, 1, 1.5 or 2 lbs of weight a week. Exercise is bonus above and beyond that, so keep your food calories within your goal and you shouldn't gain anything.

I always knew housework was deadly.

As everyone said, modify your calories to take the lower energy needs into consideration and you should be OK.

    Hope you get better soon.

Hi, I had surgery several years ago and couldn't work out for a month. I just ate super clean, healthy, watched the calories and still lost weight. For your back, immediately start taking Bromelain supplements and rub Arnica Gel or Cream on your back.
