do any of you have open diarys so I can peek at what your doing calorie wise? Sometimes I have no trouble eating a bunch of food and then other days I'm just like...I don't think I can eat anymore. Now that I'm cutting back on ice cream and candy, I'm having trouble eating all my calories... Mfp says I need 1450 a week, then I add 500 for breastfeeding, (she eats every 2 hours) and then my exercise calories are about 300. So that's 2250 calories a day. I try to stay anywhere from 1800-2200

The minimum you'll want to do in the beginning is 1800, any lower than that and you run a risk of compromising your supply early on. After it is established you can start lowering your calories, I didn't really start toying with that until around the year mark (dropped way down to 1500 couldn't do it, back up to the 1800ish mark and slowly coming down now as I lose weight) because I wanted to be sure that I'd be ok. Breastfeeding itself burns around 300-500 a day in the first year, I eventually stopped counting those so they would just be a nice extra boost. I think my diary is open to the public (if not its about to be lol) so you can take a look if you like at my first entries if you like.

If you've got any other questions don't hesitate to ask :)

*Edited* I used to count the BFing calories by adding them in as exercise at a flat rate of 500 for the first part of the year and as we got closer to 1 year 300 and then not at all. We are still going at a 1yr 1/2 but she doesn't nurse like she used to so I don't bother :)

Have you tried the babyfit.com site? Its like mfp but it adds in for BF. I have been having a hell of a time trying to loose. I have worked my butt off and have gotten no where. I started out eating 1200-1400 and ended up in startvation mode( was burning 600-880 working out) so I upped my cals to 1500-1800 and maybe one to two days I try to get to 2000 and lowered my workout to 400 cals burned and I got so tried again. Then I found babyfit and it tells me that I need to eat 2300-2500. It also has tons of articles about BF and one says it takes 750 calories to make milk but they tell you to eat 300-500 extra to loose weight and eating a little less forces your body to dip into your maternal stores and thats how you loose weight. I too am trying to find healthy foods to eat to get that many calories!! Add me if you want to maybe we can help each other find foods!

Thanks everyone! I know I'm not supposed to go under 1800, and I usually don't, even if that means eating ice cream lol, I just wanted to see what some other mamas were doing.

My supply is established and no problems there. My body let's me know when I need to eat, I get dizzy, and really cranky. Hubby usually can tell and tries to shove food down my throat lol
