Caloric Confusion

So I was browsing dieting techniques that people have said worked for them and I came across the idea of caloric confusion. The basic idea is that you figure out what your body needs per day calorie-wise to be working in full condition. Then, you cut that number by 30%. Eat that number of cals for 3 days and on the 4th day each the original number. This has something to do with your body lowering its metabolic rate and number of cals needed after 4 days so if you switch back to the top number you'll be eating less cals but your metabolism will stay the same. This is kind of what I got from it. Anyone know anything about this? Specifically, if it really works! Let me know
