Do they work? I guess I don't care so much if they are accurate as long as they are consistent so that I can measure change.

I think they are pretty much consistent as far as seeing the relative differences week to week, but they have a large margin of error. Calipers can be had very inexpensively and much more accurate.

I have had this scale for about 2 weeks. obviously it is hard to see a difference in that time frame, however, I am very happy with it. It does fluctuate maybe 1% in a day depending on hydration, weight, etc. But I think it's well within an acceptable range. It also measures water, muscle, and bone, which is super nifty. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004L6NTHU

I like mine just for direction. Pretty sure it would be no where near the calibers as far as accurate, but it is pretty darn consistent with what it does tell me. For example, if I'm retaining water so my weight is up a few pounds, I'm usually down at least a percent if not two from my usual. Conversely, if I'm having a really low weight day because I'm dehydrated, it'll show a few percentages higher on body fat. It helps me not freak out over the higher readings anyway.

Yeah, that's the one I was looking at. I'm a geek and love gadgets  I guess I could get it AND calipers

If you follow instructions, they are at least consistent and directionally accurate +/- a percent or 3. Calipers are not a great alternative. You really can't do it yourself accurately and ideally it requires someone with training/experience.
