My husband and I did it a few years back. It is like anything, if you stick with it, it works. I personally found it too restrictive and could not keep at it. I am not a great cook so found it too challenging. Calorie counting works lots better since I can eat what I want as long as it is withing my calories.
  • I found it IMPOSSIBLE with my busy schedule and with my kids always on the go. Honestly, I lost nothing and was irritable that it was such a difficult program. Being on MFP and just logging what I eat..15 lbs. GONE.
  • Low carb I think But not as extreme as the Atkins diet.

I love the South Beach diet and followed it on and off for years. Phase one is low carbs, it pretty much kicks your cravings for carbs/sugars. Phase 2 integrates whole grain carbs (no white junk), and phase 3 is what you follow when you're done.

It's actually pretty balanced, and easier to follow. What I do now is follow about 130 carbs a day and watch my sugars. Lower carb, but not low carb.

It's a pretty balanced diet overall. It's pretty easy to follow your own thing and just use their recipes.

I did this in 2004 and was VERY successful....unfortunately - I did not exercise and did not understand that this needed to be my journey - my life style change and I gained back the 40 I lost. I also had a very hard time re-introducing carbs back into my food choices shile I was on South Beach - carb were evil.
I now watch my carbs but won't ever "diet" again. This is my life, my journey and I eat real - but am careful and meticulous about logging my food.
    Good luck to you! :drinker:

I am not using it right now, but I have thought about it. Basically it is the way we are supposed to eat: lean protein, good fats, vegetables, whole fruit and carbs that contain fiber. I think it gets slammed because of the first phase, which is no carbs for two weeks. That is prescribed to get rid of sugar cravings. I am not convinced that the first phase is needed, but I'm not a doctor, either.

I did the 1st phase of SBD. The first few days were hard but after that I felt good. Liked the fact that you could eat as much as you wanted as long as it was allowed. After Phase 1 I was kind of lost....didnt know exactly what i could eat and how much of it i could as well so i pretty much failed...and gained my 8lbs back that i lost...BOO!!.Later I found out that in phase two you can have two carbs a day (whole grain ofcourse) and i think like two fruits. Then i believe you do that till you get to your goal weight. Once you hit your goal weight you can eat whatever...say your at a bbq and you bindge a bit you can do phase 1 again for like two days and it should get you back on track. Very healthy diet in my opinion after phase one ofcourse. First week will be hard if you dont like veggies! Try starting with phase two!
