If you are a stress eater, can you please list any suggestions and advice on how you relieve your stress and or manage the temptations to overeat?

I am a stress eater big time and I don't manage well.... I do really well until something REALLY stressful happens like taking my 2 year old to the ER earlier this week, and then I say "aww f it!!" and pick up jack in the box on the way home at midnight. lol Dont follow my lead.

I haven't found anything that completely cures it.. but I do take a B vitamin complex which helps tremendously minimizing the impact on my body.

I am a stress eater also and sometimes I am successful and overcome the temptation by drinking a cup of hot tea with splenda and fat free creamer which is very low calorie and filling.....try low calorie drinks, it might fill you up and keep you from eating...

I am a comfort eater. That means I eat when I am stressed, lonely, bored, sad, self-loathing, or any other word we use to describe bleak, emptiness. For me, the only cure has been abandoning my crutch. That means that when I am sad, I have to deal with being sad. when I am hurt, I have to feel hurt. I’m not allowed to shut up my feelings with food. The only way out is through. Rather than numb, I feel, and I am developing different coping skills as a result.

That doesn’t mean I am perfect. Some days, I heal my feelings the way I always have (and yesterday’s diary is a prime example). some days, I go workout. But, above al, it has taken a change in mindset. My feelings are okay. They are not something I have to overcome or be embarrassed by. They are not insignificant, as I have been taught to believe since childhood. My feelings are simply something I must work through, and I do not have to silence my stress, or anything else, with food.

I'm a stress / emotional eater, for sure. If I'm having a crappy day, I'll just graze and munch and not even think about a cookie here and a croissant there. It really helps to be honest with myself and enter everything into MFP as soon as I eat it. I start to see the calories add up and then it curbs the temptation. I really want to stick with my plan and lose the weight, so being accountable to myself is helpful. I might still eat 4 Oreos and 5 Hershey's Kisses, but once I enter them into MFP, I know that I've done my damage and it's time to move on and get back to the plan.
