Hello! My husband and I have have been trying to get pregnant for almost 11 months now and have been unsuccessful =(
We are going to to continue to try every month until it happens. I run 5ks and I am not sure whether or not to continue to run or not for the fear of possibly getting and or being pregnant and doing harm. I have never been pregnant before, so I am learning! My next 5k is in the beginning of May and I am not sure whether or not to continue to train or not. If any one has any advice, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks.

Run!! Have a friend who completed a half marathon at 5 months pregnant. Another friend who ran "only" 5-6 miles when she was 9 months pregnant with her 4th child. It's not smart to start running when you're pregnant, but if you already run, keep it up! Both you and the baby will be healthier for it.0

I would suggest talking to your doctor, really. I've never been pregnant (and just started running, haha) so I'm sure your doctor could give you all sorts of information, based on your medical history and other factors dealing with getting pregnant, and what goes on during the pregnancy.
Good luck! When you do have your little bundle, post some pictures!!0 -
I think you can probably maintain your regular exercise routine until you find out you're pregnant (and even then, you can keep up a lot of activities that you did before you were pregnant), but if you're nervous about it, I'd make a call to your ob/gyn for advice. The main thing is to not start anything new after you get a + pregnancy test, and to avoid activities with a high risk of fall or injury for you.0

Yes, you can continue to run as long as you have been running prior to getting pregnant. Through both of my pregnancies, my doctor just told me not to start doing any new activities. If you don't feel comfortable doing it, then I wouldn't since I am sure you are already carrying stress from trying for some time. Stress isn't good for mom or baby. Good luck to you and your husband. I hope you will be successful soon!0

I think it would be ok, especially if you're already a runner. But I would seriously talk to your doctor, my sister-in-law was advised to take the first trimester off from exercise after some fertility problems. Best of luck!!0

Running will not harm the baby... there is plenty of cushion in the womb! I exercised throughout my last pregnancy under my doctor's guidance and only stopped running because it became physically uncomfortable for me as my belly swelled- not because of any threats to baby. However- your piece of mind trumps all logic when it comes to being pregnant so only do what you feel ok with.
Good luck!

I was told that running does not prevent you from getting pregnant, but losing too much weight or being underweight will. BUT if you run too much to the point where you are no longer experiencing a menstrual cycle, this can definitely help in preventing pregnancy.
Best wishes with everything!!!!0 -
If you are used to running it will not harm your baby. I completed a half marathon 5 days after finding out I was pregnant with my last child. My OB told me not to take up anything NEW (like horseback riding) but to continue with current activities as long as I felt comfortable. I ran a 5k at 22 weeks (that was my last). Do what you feel comfortable with. Good luck, hope that helps0

If you are having problems conceiving, it could be the problem, i mean its great that you run to stay in shape but my sister has had in-vitro done and she wasnt supposed to be on her feet at all, like for a couple of weeks, maybe just try not running right after ovulation until you get either a positive or negative pregnancy test. good luck0

I ran the entire time we were TTC, 4-5 miles maybe 3 times a week plus cross training. Definitely talk to your doctor once you do get pregnant, but in most cases you can maintain your workouts with a few modifications the further along you get. Personally I didn't have the energy or stomach for exercise first trimester, but second tri I went back to running about 3 miles a few times a week. At 30 weeks I finally stopped because I was uncomfortable, but still walked 5 days a week. For what it's worth I went to Stroller Strides this morning (a fairly intense workout for moms) and there was a woman there who was 37.5 weeks along! I think the only thing they warn against is starting a new workout routine or increasing intensity while pregnant. Good luck with your journey!0

I'm not much of a runner but I did have a little help in getting pregnant: cough syrup! Must be the kind that contains Guanaphene Syrup (I'm sure that is spelled wrong BTW). A labor & delivery nurse told me about the trick and I've also read it in baby books. Basically the cough medicine helps thin cervical mucus the same way it would thin the mucus in your lungs if you had a bad cold and makes it easier for conception to occur. I took it as directed for about 5 days prior to and during ovulation. Worked for me!0
