I have been overweight my entire life and now am in the process of loosing the weight, and doing it at a gradual healthy pace. Now I have seen before and after pics of people that have lost 60,70 80+ lbs that did not have loose skin. It seems like a lot of people think that the more you have to loose is a guarantee that you will have loose skin, now I know its possible, especially if your loosing weight rapidly, but not the case with everyone. Just wanted to share and see what you guys think?

I think it also has to do with how fast you put it on. Your skin only has so much elasicity. I was overweight my whole life, but within a year when I was in a bad relationship I put on 90 lbs. 90 friggin pounds in 1 year!!! I have lost 70 lbs so far and I can tell you my skin is not really loose except in my stomach area. I will likely require surgery for it later, but yes ultimately I agree that not everyone will have this issue.

I agree I have done a lot of research on this and personally Knock on wood- Flair Prayers and such I have not had this problem. I drink TONS of water and try hard to loose gradually so that this will not happen. I have only lost 31 LBS but so far so good. I have read that genetics plays a factor also and my Mother has assured me she never had that problem when gaining and losing and neither has my aunt. My cousin has but she always goes on starvation diets and looses to quickly. I hope this help. Good Luck ! :flowerforyou:
And yes!! With God ALL things are possible I am living breathing Proof!! God Bless!!!

I personally am 99% sure I will have the saggy skin, no matter how slowly I lose it. I don't know how to describe it, but I dont seem to have the same type of fat that other overweight people I know. My skin is already saggy just from being so overweight.

I think it all boils down to genetics. Some people are lucky and some people aren't. Unfortunately, I would be on the unlucky side;)

I think some of it also has to do with how old you are-i would venture to say that people who are overweight...and under say35..typically dont have as much saggy skin as someone who is older. Our skin looses elasticity as we age.

It seems to me that a good portion of it comes from how long you've been overweight as well. For me, I gained weight right as soon as I hit puberty and pretty much grew boobs overnight. I've had horrid stretch marks on my chest since day one and I knew they'd be an issue when I lost weight. For the rest of my body, my stomach and thighs were what was always larger and I got stretch marks around my middle and thigh when I gained even more weight later in life.

As I've lost the weight, the boobs...well...yeah, there's nothing good happening there anymore. The belly and thigh area definitely have loose skin that's just not doing anything but hanging there. Places that only got a little larger after the more recent weight gain seem to have just thinned right back out without issue.

And just looking at friends of mine that have lost large amounts of weight (a lot of us seemed to kind of do it all at the same time, without planning to) the ones that were heavier for more of their llives have more loose skin. The ones that gained the weight in the last few years and just wanted to get it back off, everything went back to normal with their skin.

So my theory is simple - the longer the skin has been stretched out, the more likely it is to stick around be loose. :(
