How do I guess how many MPH I'm jogging at?

So I did my first proper jog for about 25 minutes, but have no idea how far it was I ran so I'm unsure of the speed, also there were small hills. How do we know which one to choose in the exercise log on here?
Seems to be so many options like 5 MPH up to like 12 MPH, I don't want to choose to low or high and screw up my calories. Any hints/tips for guessing/estimating?
Thanks :-) Fi

Was it on a road? You could drive the path with your car and find out how far your ran and then divide by your time.0

Measure the distance with your car. We have several 1, 1.5 and 2 mile routes mapped out. If I run the one mile in 11.5 miutes, then I've jogged at a 5.2 pace. Accounting for hills- eh, that's a little extra that I wouldn't count to help balance the inaccuracies of my food log.0

Google maps works pretty well. Use this distance measure tool to figure out how far you've gone.
Also, there are a number of sites like 'mapmyrun' that are probably even better. Some of them work pretty well. Much cheaper than a Garmin Forerunner. I've only used the maymyride (for biking), but it works well.

If you have a smart phone you can download Runkeeper...its free and tracks your mileage and pace. You can use it for walking/running/cycling. I love it!

You can use this to figure the distance you went: http://www.walkjogrun.net/
And this to figure the speed averaged over that distance: http://www.arkansasrunner.com/calculators/mileperhr.htm0 -
do you have a smartphone? theres an app for that.. :flowerforyou:0

Try mapping your route using this web site: http://www.beewellforlife.com
I use it to get both a distance and a calorie count. Then I take my distance divided by my time to get a speed. I log my exercise on both MFP and BeeWell. The BeeWell site donates to Breast Cancer Support for every mile you log walking, running or biking. I find that the calorie counts on MFP and BeeWell are either very close or exactly the same.
And good for you for getting out there!0 -
I use
gmaps pedometer
just enter that into your URL bar and click on the first option that your search engine brings up. You should get a map of the world, you can zoom in to where you live, then double click and click and click and click around and create the path that you ran. I use this often as I try to change different paths to find a 5k that isn't hilly! (no luck on my part, living in a valley is all hills!)
so anyway, I map that (make sure not to hit "complete there and back route" because that doubles the real amount of mileage) and bring the number to coolrunnings.com
so if I ran 2.3 miles
in 32 minutes
I type that into cool running (on the left sidebar, scroll down the page) and enter it. It says to me I ran at a pace of:
13:55/mile0 -
If you have android or iphone I would download runkeeper. Its free and tells you the distance and your speed. I use that with the couch to 5k (c25k) program0
