I have been approached by many friends as to what I am doing? What have I done to lose weight, get active and become healthier? After some thought I have decided to give back as a way to share information and hopefully stay motivated on my journey. Please understand that although I am a medical professional, this is what has worked for me so far and it may work for you, but please tailor the advice to your current situation and speak with your health care provider if you have any doubts.
I guess I will start off with a little back ground information and give you all some insight as to what this Blog may evolve into. I am a 41 year old married, father of 3. I have a wonderful family...a loving, supportive wife and 3 of the most lovable kids in the world. I have been in healthcare for over 20 years. I am a Cardiology Adult/Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.
I realized one day in Dec of 2009. With the risk of sounding "cocky".... I have been rather successful in most areas of my life. I got a great job, wonderful wife, lovable kids, roof over my head, great friends and a few dollars in my pocket. Many of those things I have had little or no control over. But the one thing in my life that I felt I was lacking in was the one thing that I HAD COMPLETE CONTROL over. My weight and my health. How is it that I am able to make hard decisions, literally life and death situations at times and not miss a step? But when it came to the food I ate and my lack of exercise, I had to many excuses for my failure. Yes it was a failure. I know what it takes. I understand the science. I know the health ramifications. And I still made the wrong choices. That was until I decided to do the right thing. It may sound selfish, but I did it for me!!!! Why because I love my life. I love my wife. I love my Kids. I want to live as long as I can, enjoy the things that are ahead of me. I lost my mother to cancer when I was 9, my father had his first bypass surgery when he was 49. I am selfish. I do not want that to be me. So I decided to do the right thing for ME. So that is a little background info of what lead to my current journey to weight loss and better health.
Jan 1- 2010 I was barely able to walk 1 mile in 20 mins. 2 months later I did my 1st 1/2 Marathon. Since then I have done 4 and many 5 & 10 K's I have become a beachbody coach and do road cycling. I have Lost over 95+ lbs and feel better than I have in over 22+ years. I am the lightest I have been too. Getting stronger, more tone and loving life. I was at 290 when I started. I was almost in size 48 pants and today i am almost in size 32. Live and loving every moment of life.
So what do I envision ????. Well being selfish again, this as online conscious for me. To help me stay the course. It will be where I share what I have done and what is working for me. I am surprised at the number of people who said that I motivate them or inspire them to get healthy and lose weight. It was not my intention but it makes me feel so nice when I hear that from friends and family. I will list healthy eating tips and recipes, walking and work-out tips, the reason and science behind some of the myths and dangers of obesity and lack of exercise. It will be a forum where I can answer questions and share tips and motivation with all of us who decide to go down this journey together. Sorry for the long winded ramble.
But in order to know where you are headed you got to know where you came from.
