How often should I give myself a rest day? I run about 45-60 minutes a day when I run & I've gone 3 days in a row this week. Just wondering if I should take a day off or not tomorrow

I do 3-4 miles a day and lift. Sometimes I vary up my cardio but my routine is usually 2 days on-1 day off. That puts you working out 5-6 times a week, depending on the week. On the day off, sometimes I'll just lift or take the day completely off, but I try not to really run more than 2 days in a row because overexertion leads to shin splints. No fun. That's just my rule of thumb.0

I generally work out 5-6X a week, but I run, bike and swim. You do need to give your legs and knees a break from time to time. Use those breaks to rest completely at least once a week. If you want to do some cardio the other days, jump in the pool. GREAT workout!!0

I try to run every other day...so that means 3 days one week and 4 days the next. The "off" days I do weights or cross train.0

i run 5k every other day, 30 day shred onthe days i dont run....0

I would take a day off. Think about it... for three days you've been slamming your feet into the ground and not giving the muscles a chance to rest and recover.
Eventually something's going to give from overuse.
I generally try to take 3 days away from running a week... 1 for cross training and 2 for rest. I usually rest Mondays and Fridays.0 -
your pics are from running???? i have been running for 5 months, only 5 pounds gone ..... you loook great.. way to go!0

I run every other day (3-4 times a week) at varying lengths - some runs are as short as 2 miles, some as long as 9- and I have 2 off days where I do strength and toning work. I usually take 1-2 days off per week - I do walking and such but no active "working out"0

I recently worked out some way, including running, every day for 2 weeks recently and had to abandon a run halfway through...my body just screamed "STOP!". I took the next day off and was ready to go the following day. So, take at least 1 day off per week. That whole "sabbath" idea of resting, was created within in us.0

You're too sweey & no. I can't credit running with my loss. =P Just barely started back up! The loss is mainly from the elliptical, SOME running/jogging & walking & eat a lot better!0 -
just listen to your body
I generally run 6 days straight every week, then cross-train the 7th day - usually 45-55 mile per week (but I've been doing it for years, so I'm used to it)0 -
When I have childcare, I run 3 times a week. I don't want to do more than that as I have been having some ankle problems I don't want to turn into longer term issues.I wouldn't run 3 days in a row.0
