I need new atheletic shoes. I have been wearing AVIA's and am getting wicked shin splints. I have heard mixed reviews about the Nike Shox, but really like the way they look. I run on the treadmill, do Zumba, and kickboxing. What are the forum's opinion on the Shox or any other shoes for that matter?

you should go to a specialty store and have them fit your feet and decide what type of support you need. if you're getting shin splints then you are needed something different! once they tell you what to look for, then you can browse around town and find the best deal0

People typically bump a post for one of two reasons:
1) they want it to bump back to the top of the forum hoping more people will respond (I think that's why it's called a "bump")
2) they want the post to show in their list of topics they've responded to so they can come back to it easily.0 -
Shox are great shoes if your feet are suited to them.
I would recommend you go and get fitted properly at a store that specializes in running (Fleet Feet, Running Room, Stride Ahead etc)
There are a few reasons people get shin splints. Overuse, Bad shoes or a Mechanical defect in your running (eg. Pronation/Suppination). Bad shoes are either worn out or the wrong type( by worn out I mean more than 300 miles)
When you consider how much time we spend on our feet... its really easy to justify spending the time, effort and money in getting the right type of shoes.0 -

I finally went to a running store, did the whole treadmill thing and had them fit me for a pair of shoes. Best $100 I ever spent. Got rid of the shin splints and plantar fasciitis immediately. They are Mizunos brand, never heard of them, NOT cute, but they work. I wanted a cute pair, I'm a girly girl, but at the end of the day I needed a pair of shoes that would work for the way I walk/ran.0

Totally Agree. I went out on the weekend to have my shoes replaced as my current shoes were blown out and no longer supporting my feet. Go to a specialty store and get fitted. Don't worry about brand or look. Worry about your body.0 -
I do zumba too. I actually bought new shoes just for Zumba cuz my regular tennis shoes didn;t let me move right. I bought these...

They do run small, they state on the website to order 1-2 sizes bigger than street shoes but I wear a size 10 in regular shoes and had to order a size 14 in these and they fit me great. They are made for dancing so they let you twist and slide!!
As far as shoes for running or other things.. I love my Saucony's. Someone at the gym referred me to them and they are awesome. Most comfortable shoes I've owned. I can't wear Nikes or New Balance.. etc. cuz they seem to hurt my feet. These do not! Good Luck!!0 -
Asics are the most comfortable shoes i have ever worn for everyday, working out, running, standing on my feet for 8 hours. Nike shox look awesome ( I have some) but kill my knees and heels when I stand in them or exercise in them. They are not stable enough to run in (very high risk of ankle sprain due to the narrow base at the back). I love my shox, but only wear them to class. I will never wear them for standing/exercising anymore.0

I agree with the others too....you need to get professionally fitted. Especially if you plan to do any running. We have a Fleet Feet in my area which is where I went and was very pleased with the results. I went in with an open mind determined to find a pair of shoes that would make running less painful. I walked out with a brand of shoes that I had never tried before and was very happy with the end result. You may spend a few more bucks, but your body will appreciate it and you will be able to work harder with less fatigue or pain.0

I was going to echo the advice to go to a speciality running store and get fitted, but your reply tells why better than just repeating the good advice. I also had shin slints and PF and the right shoes helped both. I'm thrilled for the "girly girl" who bought the best shoes rather than the best looking ones!0 -

I have to agree with everyone and get fitted... but i just recently bought a pair of Nike Shox and I have back problems and honestly
as soon as I put the shoes on it made a difference .... invest in the best shoe for your situation.... good luck...
