I have been doing well my first couple of weeks, but I am afraid of hitting a plateau. I see this is common from reading all your posts. Does anyone have any advice to avoid a plateau befor it starts. I don't want to loose my motivation or my progress. HELP.

Don't settle on one workout routine and keep measuring how much you eat. It's amazing what 1/4 cup of nuts actually looks like next to what I thought it was!

And, if you haven't already, invest in a heart rate monitor. Lets you see how many calories you REALLY burn, keeping you from eating too little/too much.

    Good luck!

Yeah I need to get myself a heart rate monitor as well..That's one thing I do not have. I hit a plateau... after going strong for a few months and loosing 20 lbs... I just got out of plateau mode after two months of not gaining or loosing weight...and how I did it was by taking everyone's advice..still working out .but upping my calories a few hundred...going from 1200 calories to about 1500 calories....and as crazy as it sounds..it really worked!

I think it's natural, and inevitable (for most people), to plateau at some point. The body has to take a llittle time to adjust itself every once in a while, and when that happens we usually plateau, because a) you're body is now concentrating on things other then the reduction of fat and b) the plateau is the natural sign from your body telling you "Hey! I don't run that way any more, change it up will you? I need different stuff now."

I would say don't get frustrated by a plateau, CHEER for it. Cuz it means your body has changed (usually in a healthy way) and now you just need to find out what it takes to continue after the change.
