Over the past year (2010), I lost about 18 pounds and was feeling great! I made the transition into maintenance mode, however I've gained about 12 of those pounds back! I still log my food, and work-out daily, however I'm guessing my weight gain is do to a lifestyle change. I went off to college in fall 2010, and was really determined to keep the healthy eating habits and work-out plans I established during the summer. I would say my work-outs are consistent, but its impossible for me to keep the same eating habits! I'm not joking when I say that college food is total junk. (I have to stick to eating campus meals b.c its payed for in the room&board's meal plan.) I try to live off of the salad bar, but it is never satisfying to eat salad for lunch and dinner every single day! I miss the whole grains, fresh fruit, veggies, and baked fish I was enjoying while at home. PLEASE HELP!

  • Don't they have grilled chicken/pork/turkey? What about hardboiled eggs? I usually eat one or two a day, they are filling and with lots of protein. I also have a plain Greek Yogurt everyday, I eat it with fruit so it is a good combination of vitamins and proteins, and well, the fructose of the fruit, which is better than the sugars added to flavored yogurts...

No, they do not have grilled chicken/pork/turkey. (only maybe once a month on rare occasion.) There are always lunch meats, but I don't trust them. They sit out all day, and I worry about preservatives and sodium. No eggs or decent yogurt either. For protein, I mostly go for for the beans that are available. (hhmmm beans are cheap. imagine that!) However I do not find beans to be very filling and I end up being hungry like an hour later!

Basically, my personal snacks I get for my dorm room are going to be where I get get some decent protein. For snacks, I can buy greek yogurt and eggs from the store.

However, I'm looking for ways to make my breakfast and dinner more filling..

    Hi,
Are there multiple dining rooms on campus that accept your meal plan? When I was in college, the main place to eat served crap, but the snack bar had fruit, veggies, and yogurt I could buy with my meal plan once a day. Maybe you could do that part of the time to help.
Also, what about contacting your campus food director and requesting some healthier choices part of the time (oatmeal for breakfast, fresh fruit bowl, etc.). It couldn't hurt to ask.
    Good luck!
