So does anyone go to a 24 hour gym? I currently have a Y membership but only use the gym, no classes so far, so it would be cheaper to join one of the 24hr places I was just hoping to get opinions on them so I can make up my mind!
Thanks

The Y is my choice because kids memberships are included in the family rate, as opposed to other gyms like Goodlife that charge extra to watch the little ones.
I have a lot of friends who enjoy GoodLife, especially for Zumba. But I say pop into the gyms near your home - here in London Ontario there are 2 Athletic Clubs but one is super nice and the other is kind of yucky.
Good Luck!0 -
For me the Y is a lot cheaper than a 24 hour gym and it also benefits me b/c they have a free nursery for my son to go to and I can work out knowing he is safe at the Y. Lots of people that I work out with have been leaving the 24 hour gyms and joining the Y, I will see what their reasons are just to be nosy but both have their benefits. Good luck!0

I used to go to a "for profit" gym before getting a YMCA membership. Here's why I switched:
1) The contract. If you decide you want to leave before the end of the year, it'll cost you. Even after the end of the year... We cancelled our membership, but they kept charging us for a full year afterwards! We had to call every month and yell at the manager before we managed to get that refunded to us.
2) The atmosphere. There aren't any gym bunnies at the YMCA that I go to. Everyone is there to get fit and healthy, not to pick up hunky businessmen. I feel far more comfortable and less judged.
3) The pool! Yes, the Y may cost a little more, but it does include use of the pool. I haven't done Aquafit , but I'm planning on joining in soon.0
