I ran 4 miles yesterday which is farther then I usually run...3 1/2 was my previous longest run. I felt good, but of course tired after my run. The problem is today I feel exhausted. I am eating well so I know that is not the problem. Does anyone else feel this way after increasing their distance or intensity? I feel like I could crawl right back into bed already!

this is what i wonder about... is it easier to build up stamina and stronger legs by running shorter and harder ... more or less frequently ? ... or slowing down the pace and running longer durations?

i walk , skate and/or bike for hours and HOURS ...but after 45 or 50 minutes of running (mixed with intervals of recovery walking ) my legs start to get pretty sore

Petey, You know I guess it just depends on what your goals are. I never thought I would want to run more then 3 miles at a time since that is the perfect distance to get 35-40 minutes of cardio in for me I figured that was good enough. My sister and I decided to do the Title 9k in May and it is 6miles so I have been following a training plan designed by title 9 to get us ready. They have gradually increased distance and running time but we have stayed pretty close to the same pace about 12 minute miles the whole time. Today the increase hit me like a rock! I feel a lot better this afternoon after some high quality meals and a lot of water. Good luck with your running!
