Water gives me heartburn...

Call me crazy, but water gives me heartburn, and I have not been able to pinpoint why. Obviously the water is not the problem, but a deficiency of something else instead. It's like the more water I drink, the worse the heartburn. I continue to drink my 64 plus ounces per day, but inevitably end up with heartburn in the late afternoon. I keep a bottle of red cider vinegar pills for just this purpose, but sometimes they don't even touch the burning symptoms. I try to limit the amount of pharmaceuticals I injest, so the zantacs, etc are not an option. I don't want to treat the symptoms. I want to eliminate the cause. Any suggestions?

Are you prone to heartburn anyway? I always try to go the natural route so I take ginger and aloe vera gel to ease my pain. A friend also takes cinnamon but I haven't tried that.

my husband says that he suffers from this also. What helps him the most is to use the crystal light mixes. It seems that if the water is flavored that helps him. This is hard for me to understand sometimes. I hope you find something that works for you.

I Was told that I was diluting my acids in my stomach, and because I was filling my stomach so much they were raising..It could be full of crap...but I noticed if every time I drink I have something little to eat it seems to not happen.....Even just a couple of nuts and I am good.

You know.. I've been having a problem with heartburn and couldn't figure out what was causing it.. but maybe your right because before I started this I had no problems with heartburn but never drank water either.. Now I'm drinking only water and having heartburn issues. Somes days are worse than others.

I have heard that you can have heart burn from not having enough acid in your stomach. I believe the way to test for this was to drink some vinegar. If the heart burn goes away, then that is your problem.

My sister suffers from the same symptoms, but again everyone told her she was crazy...that there was no way water consumption could cause heart burn. Then we both realized we were afflicted with the same craziness which made us feel a little better about it. Maybe we are crazy but we can be crazy together. And now I have all of you that I can share with her.

I literally used to carry around a bottle of apple cider vinegar with the mother that I would drink from. Then I found the pills at the natural health store. They are not as effective, but much more convenient.

I had the same problem, it was a food allergy. The doctors would not listen. I gave up the food I was allergic to and it stopped.

It may be nothing at all, or it could be signs of acid reflux or other issues. Water should not trigger heartburn, but if it is, I would talk to a doctor and find out why and what can be done about it. If in fact you are producing stomach acid and it's coming up out of your stomach, you could damage the lining of your esophagus over time, so pleas find out the why's and how's. Likely, it's some little thing that can be easily remedied, but it's better to be safe than suffer long term effects. And, please share what you find with all the others who also are suffering from this.

I used to suffer terrible heartburn and acid reflux, especially in the evenings and at night. Some nights it would wake me with my throat on fire it would get so bad. Mine was usually from over eating or drinking too much and having my stomach too full, as well as too active. I was about to address the issue with a doctor, but upon starting my weight loss journey discovered that by eating less in the evenings (and not drinking a lot) I could avoid this. As I lost weight, the problem has gone away. Now, even on the rare occasion that we do eat late, I have no problems.
