Exercise Question

I walk to work, but round trip it's only about 15 minutes. Should I log that as exercise? I normally exercise 4-5 times a week beyond the walking to work, but I just didn't know if I should count that since it's not really a lot of activity.

thanks for your help! :flowerforyou:

I would count it as Walking at a slow pace...I count walking to the Child Care Center to pick up my kids as a 10 minute walk above and beyond my 60 minute run....I usually use it as my cool down..
  • I agree... They have a 2.5 moderate pace walk on the MFP exercise options! But, it's still exercise, so definitely count it! :flowerforyou:

Personally, I only enter exercise that is done for the express purpose of working out - I don't count it when I take my dog to the park or walk to the grocery store or take my children out etc. Those things are part of my daily routine and my body is accustomed to them so they don't work much. Not the same as someone who is totally sedentary then begins walking. So when I go for power walks or runs or do weight training or aerobics or dance class I count that as exercise. That way I'm sure not to over-estimate my exercise calories and miss my weight loss goals.

    Hope that helps

I'd say every step counts! I put on my pedometer when I get dressed in the mornings and record the steps I've taken as I get undressed for bed. I also try to walk 30 minutes six days a week, which is also recorded on the pedometer. What's that saying about all of us needing at least 10,000 steps a day? I'd say count it even if you do it every day. It's still exercise!

Best to you! You're doing great!

It comes down to what you've selected as your daily activity level. If you account for a little activity in your daily activity level your calories are already adding those in. Use what you've entered as daily activity level to determine whether or not you count your walks to and from work!
