I never got in my reccomended amount of fruits or veggies, and my handheld blender is my new friend. A homemade smoothie helps me get through a sweet tooth craving, and helps with hunger pangs before lunch or dinnertime. Are there things that I should add to my smoothies that have a health benefit? Ex: wheat germ, etc, and why? I never add any extra sugar considering everything (or most) have natural sugars in them.

I had a strawberry banana spinach smoothie today that was awesome. Also I hear adding ground flax has good health benefits too.

wheat germ for sure, but the after taste is god awful....
Try fruits with high anti oxidants like black/blue berries. I personally add a banana (potassium and fibre) and a handful of blackberries (antioxidants and fibre) to my shakes. I have a huge blackberry bush in my garden and freeze them throughout the summer and have enough throughout the winter (really easy to grow the bush)0
