Blister situation

Hello there,

I am about 3 1/2 weeks from my 1/2 marathon and am starting to really get tired from the buildup of workouts.

This past Saturday I ran outside (whee! in upstate NY this is a beautiful thing) for 12 miles. On Sunday I noticed that I had developed a large blister on the bottom of my right foot, right under the large toe.

(TMI, sorry) I carefully popped it last night, plopped some Vaseline on it, Band-Aid...fine, right? Not really.

Today I was scheduled to run 5 miles and I felt the blister at every footfall. It is like a painful twinge that will not go away.

I'm scheduled for a 13-mile run this Saturday and I'm wondering what I can do in the meantime to A. get rid of this damn thing or 2. make it more manageable. I think it's too late to break in a pair of shoes for the race on May 1st.

Any suggestions?

Friend of mine is a ballet dancer and a doctor. This is her proven solution:

Take a sterilized needle and pop onehole at the edge left or right not front or back, where it hits the new skin. THEN soak your foot in a sink of hot water and half a bottle of ALUM from the spice section..Do the soaks three times a day- it will pickle your skin and heal well. I used to do that when I was dancing and the toe shoes caused blisters and I had to dance the next day- it works like a dream. Or try it with epsom salt but use the alum first!
