Wanna hear something funny?
I'm vegetarian and for years I've been hearing the same old "but what about your protein bla bla bla"... now that I have been recording my food intake for a while, I noticed that I am always always having the recommended amount of protein, and not even that but on most days I go over it. What's funnier is that I don't even try to eat protein, it's just there in things I didn't think would have it. Like, in the past when I just became vegetarian I would stress about it and make sure I would eat lots of veg. protein from any source I can find. Now, I don't even think about it and I go over the recommended amount every day!

Irony aside, there's also the concern: is it bad to eat too much protein? I do know that eating way too much protein is actually bad for you and can cause your muscles to deteriorate... but how over should you be to reach a state like that? I go over my protein just a few grams a day, the most I've been over was like 16 g or something like that. but usually I am a few grams over. Am I safe?

If you work out on a daily basis then going over by 20g or so is actually helping your muscles build up when they need it most. I drink a protein shake that has 27g protein per serving after every workout because your body needs to replenish. Going over by 100's though, not so much a great idea.

doesnt matter much as anything over 25-30grams of protein at a time isnt absorbed, so is peed out.

Depends on your aims, I'm shooting for 0.5 grams of protein per pound of body weight, so about 150 grams of protein for me, will step it up further when I'm back to strength-training.
MFP defaults to 15% of calories from protein and I consider that low for my aims it took me bumping protein to 30% of my calories to get the amount I'm aiming for.

As u know eating enough cals is important for your body to run efficiently, not just any cals but cals that are rich in nutrients. Now do u know what your ratios should be when it comes to carbs, fat, and protein? By finding out how you body metabolises those calories. If you are using mfp u can adjust your goals to match this.

This was super neat! I took the test and found that I'm a mixed type, neither slow nor fast oxidizer. Which actually, I thought I was a fast oxidizer from my tendancy to avoid heavy meals and lean towards fruits and things. I've always preferred sherbet and frozen yogurts to full ice creams or chocolates.
    Very interesting. <3
