Calories Burned to Lose Weight

How many calories do you burn a day on average if you did not work out and had a sit down job? (So, just by doing normal everyday things like walk to and from your desk, type on the keyboard, get dressed, cook dinner, etc.) I know that you must burn more calories than you consume to lose weight and you can lose weight eating 1200 calories a day or less, right? And when I workout and add that time to my diary it gives me MORE calories. Do I have to eat those, too? Please help me understand. Thanks.
