I have read a few threads but I need clarification.

My BMR is 1377; My calories are set at 1200. In order for me to lose weight and avoid Starvation mode (I live there so I'm trying to move) I need to eat at least 1377 calories per day? And if I exercise I need to eat those calories as well?

Thanks for your help

If you want to maintain your weight you need to eat 1377.

If you want to lose weight you need to eat at least 1200 to avoid starvation mode.

If you work out add those calories you earn.

No, just make sure you don't drop MUCH below 1200... AND eat your exercise calories back.

Yup! Above your BMR. Unless you are morbidly obese in which case the calculation for BMR can be thrown off.

You might try setting MFP to losing 1 or .5 pounds a week instead of 2.

Update - the first two posts are misinformed - maintenance calories are ABOVE your bmr!!!

You are going to get different opinions from people. Personally I try and eat 1200 calories a day (some days I'm just not hungry enough to do that) and I do not eat my exercise calories back. I'm not hungry, which means I'm not straving myself. You need to listen to your body. The other night for the first time ever I was hungry after eating dinner, so I ate. Still was under my calorie goal for the day. This is just me and my body talking here. And yes I am losing weight and inches.

Incorrect. 1377 is her BMR, this is what she needs to consume to maintain if she never got out of bed. Since, I'm assuming, she does get out of bed, eating her BMR will automatically put her at a deficit.

OP, yes. You have it right.

You guys are right. I should have been more detailed.

I meant 1377 is what you need to maintain without activity. Yes, any exercise or activity at all adds more calories on top of that. So if you're doing anything at all in a day, you need to eat more. Sorry if I added to the confusion! :-)
