ok so I just completed my daily diary and it says I am over my protein goal. ( I don't know why I never looked at that stuff)
I guess my question is is that a bad thing? I mean it's a red #. red numbers are never good right?
Thanks for the help

protein is great to build muscle, which burns more calories. you protein number will turn green again once you do your workout. I take in a lot of protein some days.0

You don't have to worry about protein, eat what feels right for you. I usually am under in the carbs and over in the protein. I feel better with extra protein. As long as some of it is plant based, not all meat, you know?0

Women need between 50-60 grams of protein every day0

more protein is better than more fats or carbs.....my opinion.0

Use it only as a guide line. My goals are a little different - while I want to lose weight, it is also my goal to build copious amounts of lean muscle (part of a fitness competition). My personal protein goals are WELL over the amounts MFP has, almost four times, in fact. Generally, my grams of protein need to equal pounds of healthy goal weight (roughly 180 for me), so I get to see that big red number every day. Keep in mind, however, that in order to compensate I have also drastically cut carbs and fat to do this.
So use it as a guideline and figure out what you want to do. If you want to strictly lose weight, it's not a bad idea to be near it. Going over it by a few grams is NOT going to kill you, especially protein. If it were carbs or fat, yes, but not protein. If you are into muscle building, you'll definitely want to reconsider raising that number.0 -
Well it depends....on what kind of protein you are eating and the activity you are doing that uses that protein.0

Thanks. Umm I don't really know what to do or want lol. Very knew to fitness. I am at a good weight but I do not like how my body looks ie: mommy belly and flabby thighs. So I guess build muscle to lean?0

I just read that the only real disadvantage of a high protein diet is that it can cause a calcium deficiency. As long as you take a calcium supplement that should eliminate any issues with eating a lot of protein.
I think protein helps fat break down too?? Can anyone clarify that?? I read that somewhere else :-) If thats the case, drink lots of water to flush it out so your cholesterol does not go through the roof.
Apart from being great for the muscles to help you exercise, protein keeps you fuller for longer. Protein is good and I agree that its much better than being over in the carbs or sugar.0 -
I usually consider the number for protein the minimum amount of protein that I need to eat each day.0

Strength training will reshape and tone your body and it helps to burn more calories.....0 -

What everyone should be doing.
If you're carbs and fats are under but your protein is over, don't lose a minute of thought on it. That's a good thing.0
