Merrell Barefoot shoes

So I got a pair of Merrell Barefoot pace gloves (womans) to wear when running. I absolutely love them. I followed the steps to break them in. I started with wearing them around the house and wore them for a little bit while walking. Now I am up to doing my whole c25k run in them. I make sure to run correctly to avoid heal striking. I do find it is easier to run and my legs are not as tired.

My problem now is my regular shoes. When I wear my normal sneakers or boots my feet hurt so bad. I went grocery shopping and after about 15 minutes I had to sit down because I could barely walk. Im not sure what would be causing this problem.

thanks in advanced
Jennifer

edit after reading some of the post. I am flatfooted. I am wondering if it going from having no arches to support that is bothering my feet. Im thinking about getting a pair that I can wear all the time and see if that helps.

  • The new barefoot craze was not meant for everyone. My best friend fell into the new fad and now has to see a chiropractor twice a week to repair the damage done by not wearing supportive footwear. Not saying you should give it up but don't be surprised if you fall into that category. Yes, barefoot shoes are more 'natural' but if we were meant to live barefoot than shoes would have never been invented... just my opinion. G'luck to you. I hope it resolves itself soon!

Could be some strain in your feet from getting used to the shoes, maybe. It sounds like you were working into them, but it is possible that you might have strained something in your feet. Do they only hurt when wearing regular shoes now?

Yes they only hurt in my regular shoes. My normal sneakers and my boots. When I wear my barefoot shoes they are fine. I absolutely love how I can run so much better in my barefoot shoes and I do not want to return them. I'm just thinking about getting another pair to wear all the time.

That is strange - I did a lot of research on the shoes, barefoot running, etc., and I never came across something like that. I did overdo it one day early on when my Merrells were still new, but it went away pretty quickly after I slowed back down...and I haven't had any issues going back and forth with my regular shoes.

You might try checking out the barefoot running section over at Runner's World, and see if you find any answers there:

  • Hello, I have the exact same problem. I have the same barefoot shoes, I was wearing them all the time for regular shoes. Then I decided to go back to wearing regular sneakers after 3 months because it's getting colder/ rainy outside. First day my feet were killing me right inside where my arches are (or rather my non-arches). I was happy to come across this post, I'm glad I'm not the only one :)
