I log it in as Aerobic high impact because I don't have a heart monitor either yet. Hope this helps.

I log it as High Impact Aerobics too, but I have used an HRM a few times at Zumba and it was about the same as the calories burned were on here, I think my HRM was a few calories Higher...

Ditto but I know people who log it as Modern Dance bc the calories are slightly lower and they dont want to overestimate.
I cant wait to get an HRM to stop the guessing game!

I log it as 250 which is about the same as modern dance in the database and is what nutracheck website says for Zumba, moderate intensity. I actually doubt it's that high though, I wouldn't call it much of a workout really.

You don't think Zumba is much of a workout??? You must not be going to the right classes, it's a GREAT workout for me!!

I used to log it as Aerobics High Intensity but after I got my HRM I found that my burn was overestimated by 100-200 cals every time. So I would use Low Intensity Aerobics. I generally burn about 600 calories in a 60 min class

I've had the zumba discussion on other websites and I think maybe you're right, I haven't found the right class. Opinions seem to range from 'dripping with sweat and feeling amazing' to 'just a class for fatties who want to feel they've done something' (NOT my words and I didn't think the comment was ok!)

But then I don't find Body jam much of a workout either. I did 8 hours of dance classes a week from the ages of 3 to 21 so I think possibly my 'dance' muscles are just immune and I don't find zumba type classes hard work. Pump, Combat, Step etc on the other hand I really sweat and get breathless and exhausted. Zumba I just stroll out the room and don't feel more than mildly warm.

It's very possible that since you are so used to dancing it doesn't get your heart rate up like other classes will. However, the instructor also makes a HUGE difference. HUGE. I can't emphasize it enough. I'm very lucky that most of the teachers at my gym and all of the classes I regularly go to are very upbeat and you're constantly moving. Not just swaying back and forth but really moving. I have however taken a class at a different gym where I ended up leaving about halfway through because I hadn't even broken a sweat yet.
