How have you dealt with switching to a new scale?

Gah I just had to buy a scale today because I was realizing how inaccurate the one at the gym was :noway: Has anyone else had to deal with a transition to a different kind of scale? How did you handle it the first week of the transition? I'm worried about weighing in since it might show that I'm a few pounds heavier.

gahhh how did you find out the gym scale is inaccurate? I weigh myself at the gym because I don't have a scale at home (I might buy one this weekend if I have the money). But the first time I weighed at the gym I was shocked because I didn't think I weighed that much. Plus I have to weigh in the afternoons. I want to hear what other people have to say about this topic

I personally prefer to weigh myself once a week at 9.30 in the morning after the loo and before breakfast....I go by my own scale as almost everywhere i've been my weght is different. My gynea always puts 2kg on me!!

I think it might have been ok at one point...My gym scale is like the doctor's scales, so I know when the scale is set to zero the little bar thingy should balance evenly. Well it wasn't even close! It was touching the top, like it needed to have more weight added to be even, but no one was on it. Your gym scale might not be as bad as mine though (hopefully) ha

Embrace the new number it doesn't detract from the progress you've already made. Ask god to help give you self acceptance. The number doesn't define your past success its just a metric to help you understand your journey. If the number is bigger will you quit trying or suck it up and dig deeper and keep trying? Also why live a lie? If your current scale is wrong than why continue to lie to yourself? And finally why are you assuming the worst? Maybe you'll learn you are lighter.

I weigh in at a pharmacy every week but this week I changed the pharmacy because I found that the one closest to my work now has a scale too.

I decided that even if the new scale showed a gain I would know that it was because of the scale and that I would record the weight and work from there as I intend to continue using the new scale. The new scales still showed that I lost 1lb over the last week so it worked out ok for me.

If you intend to continue using the new scale then go ahead and just record the weight, dont beat yourself up if it shows more than before.

  • Hi peeps,

Most scales are inaccurate after a while anyway, the key I think is to not concentrate on weight itself to much, if your scales show your loosing a lb, then that’s in the right direction... When weighing yourself at the gym you tend to be clothed with shoes on, and for many people they are at the wrong end of the day, i.e 2 or 3 meals into it already, always good to have your own scales and weigh in the morning... but DONT whatever you do weigh yourself every day, leave it a good 7 days, try to weigh yourself same time of day, I usually leave it till a Saturday, I get up and potter for a little while, then jump on, you'll get a more accurate feel of how you are doing when you do it this way.

But intimately I would say if you start your regime using pair of scales, I would try to just stick to them, I have always had an electronic pair at home, I find these tend to be a little more actuate, I also chart my weightless in excel :) Sad? Maybe!!

Im kind of an old had at this I have done this for years on and off, and the main thing I concentrate on is my jeans fitting, if they don't and my wardrobe becomes restricted I know I am doing something wrong, this year however (Maybe it's the fact I have just turned 30) its not having the same effect, hence joining on here when my friend recommended it, been doing it since Tuesday and my first weigh-in will be tomorrow, and I expect no change this week, but next week... I hope to see one or two pounds off!

    Hope this kinda helps?!

    Jay.

I'm dealing with that today. I'm just acting like today is my first weigh in. Even if the numbers are higher, next week, they will be lower.

I purchased a new scale a week or two into MFP. The new scale weighed me as 3 pounds heavier than did the old one. So I went back and added 3 pounds to every previous weigh-in, and just kept weighing in on the new scale.
