So, I am part of a Biggest Loser competition at my gym. Our final weigh-in is one week from today. I am not interested in dehydrating or malnourishing myself, but I was wondering if there are any healthy tips for maximizing weight loss in a short period of time. I am running 3 times a week, attending a fitness class 2 times a week, drinking lots of water and eating "clean" for the most part. I think I am pretty close to winning (and the prize is nice!) so I want to do everything I can to make it happen. I'm thinking maybe drastically reduce sodium intake and superhydrate? Anyway, if you have any advice, I'm open to it. Thanks!

If you can, up your workouts. If you are running for 30 minutes, run for 60.

I think laying off the sodium is definitely your best bet. And if you drink lots of water with that it should flush your system. Also make sure you don't eat any heavy foods within 12 hours of your weigh in, since it'll still be "in your system" if you haven't gone to the bathroom to get rid of it. And don't do any really strenous exercise within 72 hours of your weigh in, if your muscles are sore, you'll have water weight from that no matter how much you drink or how much sodium you eat. Stick within your comfortable range of exercise once you get close to weigh in.

Stick to what you are doing....BUT CHANGE the "For the Most part." Commit to Doing it perfectly this week and see what happens.

Didn't think about the muscle soreness issue! That is a good point. I always try to work hard enough to have a small amount (and often not so small amount) of soreness.

Yep, I need to fully commit to completely clean. I am also thinking no carbs or sugars with the exception of fruit and vegetable content.

Sara offered some GREAT advice...I'm also doing a biggest loser fitness challenge and will incorporate these tips prior to my next weigh-in. Thanks for posting this question!

I've read a lot of contest prep articles for bodybuilding.

    1. reducing sodium a day or so before won't make a difference, because it takes a while for the sodium to leave your body. so unless you're getting your sodium down now, and keeping it low for a week, it won't make much of a difference.

    2. Stay hydrated. Drinking tons of water will help keep your body flushed out.

    2. Don't avoid water on the day of the weigh in. But don't drink a ton before you get weighed. I'd suggest trying to use the bathroom before the weigh in. a Number 1 and Number 2 could drop you about 2 pounds or more.
