Life’s not fair… But I’m not complaining

These are just a few things I’ve notice on my journey to getting healthy. I know that there’s nothing I can do to change it, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t notice or wish I could change it.
1. My body type- It seems like my sister got all the good genes in this department; we are the same height but shaped completely different. She is petit: small shoulder, narrow waist, skinny legs, but a nice butt. I on the other hand have bigger shoulders, wide hips, thunder thighs, and a butt that would be flat as a board if I didn’t work so hard on it. My sister also has had three kids and is 8 year older than me and has a very flat stomach (she just has to run to get rid of it). Me on the other, have no kid, am only 24 and I don’t think I’ll ever have a flat stomach (this pooch just won’t go away!)
2. Weight loss- I started using MFP again on Jan. 10 of this year and have lost 11lbs, which 10 of those were lost by the beginning of March (this is great b/c I’m no longer over weight). I have been stuck at about 134-135 for over a month, and I had a feeling this would happen. But I’m kinda jealous when I see people drop weight so easily, especially my boyfriend who just has to think about losing weight and it happens.
3. Imperfections- My biggest imperfection is my stretch marks; I hate them and am self conscious about them. I have them on my inner thigh and side of hips, and I’ve had them since I was a kid (I was a very chubby kid). I have learned to live with it, but I try my best hide them but sometimes it just impossible (swimming suits). I wish someday I could wear one of those little bikinis and feel comfortable, but I know that will never happen.
Regardless of all that, no one is perfect, and I am very happy with my body and the changes that are taking place. I might not be losing weight at the moment but I see some major difference in the way I’m shaped (curvy is good right
), I’m eating healthier than I have my entire life. Why focus on all the bad stuff when there are so many other good things in life.
So go out and enjoy life! :flowerforyou:

Good attitude. It can be hard to stop comparing yourself with another and focus on how you feel.
I hear you about the stretch marks. I don't have them from pregnancy but from puberty. As a kid, one day I had no hips. The next day I had hips and stretch marks. My husband has them on his back from the summer that he grew 8 inches.0 -
I am much like you! Great post and perfect attitude!0

Good post!!!
I agree with you on your "Life's not fair" topics. I always said the rest of my family got the Nelson/Jelden genes (tall and lean), while I got the Quadhamer ones because I was built just like my grandma.....however, have found out, not really....I look like my mom and my siblings (none of whom have ever had weight issues) after losing weight. I'm not losing much since joining MFP (bouncing between 137-140), and I'm learning to be happy with that. However, I'd rather bounce between 130-135.I also am eating healthier than I ever did in my teens, 20s, or 30s.
I actually joined MFP, because I was looking for a place to record my diet and exercise online. I wish MFP had an exercise tracker that we could update here instead of using tickerfactory.com....but such is life. Perhaps that will be an option some day. And that we could track miles instead of just minutes. And maybe that is available here and I just haven't found it yet.

You're sister also probably has no muscle mass to speak of. Skinny doesn't mean healthy. (Running can cause muscle loss - any intense cardio can). You need to strength/resistance train to help preserve (or build) lean muscle mass. In fact this is a great way to make that pooch go away too - it will probably be the last to go). Building LMB will increase your metabolism and you will burn more fat during normal activity and even sleeping.
As far as your plateau. How many calories do you take in? You might need to re-calculate your goals (drop your goal loss per week) a bit to increase your calories (and men lose weight so much easier). If you exercise a lot on a calorie restriction it can stall your weight loss if you aren't taking in enough. Food is fuel for the workouts.
I started out at a healthy weight and I tried for 1lb and 2lbs but was impossible because I couldn't get the calorie deficit needed without going too low in calories. I had to use .5lb.
Good luck. And remember if you getting in some good weight lifting and resistance training you might not see a big change on the scale (it's just a number) but you will see a change in your body composition and that is what's important (think "I don't want to lose weight. I want to shed this body fat").

Spooky - This could almost have been written by me! I too have an older sister who got the skinny genes (and as such can get away with wearing the skinny jeans!) , and a boyfriend who seems to be able to think his weight off. :grumble:
I quite often catch myself thinking "Life's not Fair!", especially when I'm dieting and exercising (and the weight is going! Slowly, but MFP is definitely being a huge help!). But I agree with your attitude - all we can do is all we can do, and comparing ourselves to those more fortunate than us will only hurt our self esteem...
Keep on plugging - you'll break this plateau sooner or later and start the weight loss again, and just remember... curvy is GOOD, and skinny sisters are all well and good, but I think I prefer my bust size when all is said and done0
