iPhone app calculates calories from a PHOTO!

I heard about this app on the radio ( "MealSnap" ) and ended up spending the $2.99 to download it. So far I've just been taking photos of the food around the cafeteria at work. It's operated by Sodexo, so it's easy to get the actual info--and to my surprise this app is quite accurate! It is only calories, and sometimes gives a wide range. I thought I'd share since everyone here is counting calories and not always sure at restaurants, etc., so this might be helpful.

it doesn't accurately measure the calorie for me though :( also, it takes forever for the calorie count to appear... great idea though!
  • I'm curious as to how a photograph can take into account the unseen ingredients in foods. I'm gonna have to call b.s.

I can't imagine it would be terribly accurate though so I would not depend too heavily on it. Weight and measures is best.
Now the bar scan is a very useful tool......and accurate.

It mistakes fried veggies for fried chicken cubes, and doesn't account for artificial sweetener...
