Hey all,
I have started taking glucosamine as its supposed to help with the old joints! I creak like I'm 112 some days and my knees and ankles have suffered under years of abuse from my weight. They are getting much better with all the weight coming off but still have pain.
Has anyone else tried glucosamine? Did it work? Curious to see others experience. Thanks!

have you researched it thoroughly? it gives you gas and bloating. it CAN help with cartilage repair but they have new findings stating that it doesn't help with joint pain...do some real investigative work. i've used it and not used it. i feel no difference except for the gas and bloating....you'll get lots of positive feedback but many current researchers believe it to be a placebo effect. it's a huge money making industry. google :)

I use it with MSN and my other Rx meds for my RA. Had not heard about the gas before. May try cutting it out, it is a problem I have regularly LoL.

Placebo effect or not I think it helps. Takes a couple of weeks to work fully. I take mine as directed twice a day with food and have had no gas or bloating. I forgot to take it recently and my knee let me know!!!

I've seen the mobility of elderly pets improve after they were put on liver flavored concoctions of glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate. Maybe a dog smart enough to learn the word "medicine" might be susceptible to the placebo effect, but I can't believe cats ever are. Seeing an 18 year old cat start acting like a kitten again will make a believer out of you.

I know from personal experience that glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate together seem better at relieving joint pain than glucosamine by itself, though straight glucosamine (which is a lot cheaper) seems to be OK for maintenance.
  • interesting reading for me as I was going to pick up some Osteo Bi-flex this weekend as my joints are bad; when hubby and I are doing the walking workouts (Leslie Sansone) - my hip joints constantly hurt and when I do the arms above the head you constantly hear my shoulder joints making a popping noise (even after over a month of exercise). At this point with all the fresh fruits/veggies I'm eating the gas level has picked up anyways LOL
