My concern is muscle loss while dieting and achieving fast weight-loss.

How do you avoid muscle loss on a diet?

Intense weight lifting 2-3 times per week. Keep protein levels up (30-40%)

    Lean Protein, strength work.

You'll likely still lose some, but getting enough protein (along with good carbs and healthy fats) and doing strength exercises will help minimize the loss.

I'm not totally sure you need intense weights, but weights and protein are the way to avoid muscle loss.

Bracket your strength training with your higher carb meals. The rest of your meals make lean protein and plenty of fibrous veggies. Save those carbs for right around when your muscles need them the most.

Lifting weights regularly, not restricting calories too much and consuming sufficient protein. The slower the weight loss the better. I have a goal to build lean muscle mass and reduce my body fat by 11%. I can't watch the scale because NOTHING is happening, but my measurements are going down (8") and I've lost .5% of body fat in 2 weeks. I eat 2500 calories a day and around 180 grams of protein!

Agreed!!! too few calories and not enough protein, sleep or water will all contribute to fibrous tissue loss..
