Hey all,

It has been a while since my last message board post but the occasion calls for one today. It was finally warm enough to go for a run outside tonight and I was hoping to get some feedback on my results. After all the indoor cardio I've been doing since I started using MFP, I completed my first (and fastest) mile in 9:51. I'd like to know how that stacks up? Is that good, average, or considered still out of shape? I know that it definately killed my time from last fall of 14:27 but hit me with the truth! What are your mile times? What is a good mile time?

New Goals:
Single mile time of 7:51 by August 31st.
3-mile time of 25:00 by August 31st.

I am new to running and do a mile in 9:30. I am starting to train for a half marathon and have a long ways to go but would be happy with a 10 minute mile.

I'm a slow poke. I just started last fall, and didn't run all winter until a few weeks ago, but I've gone from a 15 minute mile last October to a 12.5 minute mile now is my fastest. I'll be thrilled when I can run a 10 minute mile.

That is good! and who says pace determines if you are in shape?? PUH LEAZEE!! I know people that are over 200 lbs and complete half marathons in 15 minute mile pace and they are way more in shape to me than those people who don't try to run.. ok I don't know if that makes sense to you but it kind of did in my head LOL

Anyways, pre-half marathon, I was running 12 min miles on distance runs
On my half marathon, I ended up doing 11min miles through the 13 miles
Now that I am pregnant, I am ranging from 10-13 minute miles on short runs.. sad face BUT still better than sitting on my A** ya diig??

after my half, If I really really really sprinted, I can do a mile in sub 7. now, that's not possible for the next maybe 10 months lol

It is not your speed that determines if you are in shape in my opinion. :) you are doing GREAT!

A really good mile time probably is around 6 minutes. A great mile time, a minute or two faster.

However, The improvement you have shown since last fall is also great. No reason you can't get it down to around 6 minutes - if you put in the miles consistently over time. If you just started running last fall you can continue to improve for ten years.

To put it into perspective though, you can already run faster than the vast majority of people who do no exercise at all.
