Ladies: Ovulation and Cardio Performance?

I was not able to finish my workout today. About halfway through, I got a pounding headache, dizziness and nausea. My body felt more than just heavy, more like my arms and legs were moving through concrete. This is not a new or harder workout than I have done before. My heart rate was not abnormally elevated either. I am pretty bummed and feel weak not being able to finish. I began to think about it, and I realize that today is pretty close to ovulation day for me. I am one of those fortunate people who actually experiences physical symptoms of ovulation, including occasional cramping, water retention, cravings and tiredness for a couple of days at the middle of my cycle. I think that that probably has something to do with my lack of cardio ability today. Just last week, I was doing some of the best cardio I have done in ages and feeling great, now, 4 days later, I feel like a total cardio newbie. Thinking back, I do usually feel pretty sluggish midcycle and don't do as well with my exercise. Does this happen to anybody else?

Yeah I tend to experience similar symptoms as you. I suggest drinking a lot of water and taking it easy on the exercise. Don't over do it. Maybe just try a brisk walk outside to get some fresh air. No running on machines or anything at the gym. You're bound to feel overly-fatigued. Everyone experiences hormonal changes different, some women more strongly then others. I feel for you. Just realize your limits and then step up your intensity once you feel back to normal again. Also, talk to your Dr. if you haven't already.

I get said warning too. Your metabolism goes up just a scoche at this time. I say work through it. You might lose some extra weight.

Well, that explains the problem I've been having. I get similar symptoms too. I don't perform as well either on the first day of my period.

I never thought about it, but I'm mid cycle now and have been eating more, feeling hungry, having cravings, real tired, sleeping more than usual, I do know I get some sharp cramps during ovulation but thats all I ever thought about with ovulation. When I did my workout yesterday I had such a hard time getting my heart rate up, I just felt so drained, and I shouldn't have. I wonder if this is whats going on. Hmmm.
  • Dancers can notice ovulation by not being able to balance as well as usual...its crazy
