Does anyone else get this?

I can drink splenda in my coffee and that seems alright, but its only a tiny bit, but ive noticed that if i drink diet coke, or have a mullerlight, or drink my protein shake, my tummy feels all weird afterwards. Kind of like a growly hungry feeling, even if im not (or shouldnt be) hungry.

Most sweetners are also laxatives (eg aspartame, sorbitol) so that may be the reason why depending on how much you are consuming ....

I've noticed it too - any insights are appreciated. I think it makes my stomach more acidic.

i think the protein shake is full of it (PHD diet whey) Its very very sweet. i can only usually manage it half strength as its that sweet, and i always thought i had a sweet tooth.

It might depend on the sweetener, too. I notice it with sucralose (in my Propel water), but not much with aspartame (as in diet sodas). But a lot of people report the headaches with aspartame. I dunno! Weird.

I stay away from all artificial sweetners as they are SO bad for us (read the studies, they're are loads of them online)

That said artificial sweetners actually increase hunger too so that 's probably why you feel like that. You'd better off just having a tiny bit of real sugar rather than artificial sweetner. Also with other foods I personally find it's better to have a little of the regular food than have any of the 'diet' or 'sugar free' versions.

    Just my opoinion

Stay away from artificial sweeteners. They're terrible for you! Instead, use something natural like Agave Nectar or Truvia. They're both natural, made from plants, no chemicals, and really yummy. I bought the Truvia in the little packs, and it's super yummy in my tea, on my grapefruit, wherever I need it, it's great.

I'm ok with splenda or diet pepsi, but the protein powder we have her gives me stomach pains. I ended up with bad gas pains that had me doubled over when i had a shake two days in a row. Sigh. Guess that just isn't in the cards for me. I have cut back on my pop (love it) and the only thing i eat regularly with aspartame/splenda is yogurt. Tried greek yogurt but so far haven't found a brand i love.

I had a really bad time with artificial everything especially splenda few years ago. I thought I was lactose intollerant and then found out it was the splenda giving me those side effects. It took time but I cut all of them out and I felt much much better. I avoid splenda like the plague now because it will still make me sick to my stomach. I can handle low doses of aspertame (I think since it's been around for so long my body expects it in my diet coke) I don't drink tons of soda, if I have 1 a day it's alot. I drink gallons of water. My coffee has a tiny bit of sugar in it and that works for me. Whenever someone tells me that their stomach is messed up the first thing I ask is about the splenda and other artificial sweeteners. I forget now what website it was that I found the side effects information, it was probably Splenda's own site.

If you are dehydrated, the body can't digest processed proteins. My Mom has a reaction to anything hydrolyzed or autolyzed for this reason - both gas and diarrhea. She's chronically dehydrated. Try getting more water! Worth a shot.

I've been told to use Truvia but that gives me the same stomach pain as sucralose.
