Side Stepper

I have one of those small side stepping machines, it has a built in calorie counter, but I'm sure it can't be right as it is suggesting that 30 minutes working on a medium to high step at a fair pace is burning 300-400 calories. Having used a larger version of this machine at the gym I think thats too much.

Does anyone have any idea how much I would actually burn, or how I could work it out without a HRM?

I can't say for sure, but did you put in your weight to the machine? As the amount of calories you burn is based on your weight, if that is reasonably high it's not strange to think that you lose 300-400 calories in half an hour at medium activity. Although it's on the high side, it depends on your weight.

Its like a stepping machine but the back of the foot plates swing out to the sides a bit, supposed to help tone the outside of your thighs.

I don't have a heart rate monitor unfortunately but I only weigh 115 pounds, I'm 5'2" and a very small build so I think it may be a little too high on the calorie burning, if it is right, I'll be on there every day!!

compair it to other exercise you do, do you feel your working as hard as at the gym on the big machine when you go for a fast walk slow walk. If you feel like its to easy to have burned that many calories then your right it didn't burn that many.
