So here it is. I am 30 years old. I used to be in fantastic shape. I was a police officer and a year round soccer player. Unfortonetly when I left the police field and join the restaurant industry I have packe don the pounds.
Life change. I have joined the Army and need to get in shape by October 11th. I have been running a LOT lately. At first I dropped about 10 lbs, which I understand is probably water weight. I have since gained most of that back but I have not decreased my workout and I am eating better. I have added weight lifting and stopped running 7 days a week because it was becoming difficult on my knees. I don't think weight lifting has added 10lbs of muscle in the couple of weeks I have been doing it. I want to lose 20-30 lbs and increase my stamina to the days of old. I run 2-3 miles a day and about 4-5 times a week. I hit the gym 2 other days. Thanks for any help.

Not sure if this will be of any help, but during my spin class yesterday, my instructor told us that if we have knee pain when running, that strength training on the bike can help with that.
On a side note, congratulations on joining the army! My husband is going on six years in the army. =]
Ok--Another side note, if you're trying to pass weight/tape, my husband tells his more, "robust" guys, to build up their neck muscles so their neck tapes bigger. This gives them a little more wiggle room and sometimes, time to loose the weight! Good luck!!0 -
Are you eating enough? There is no quick fix when it comes to 20 pounds. It is "slow and steady wins the race". Make sure you are setting yourself up for success by eating enough. Expect a half to one pound loss per week, and set your goals on MFP accordingly. Here's some stuff to read -

Thank you the advice. I have passed all medical exams for the Army. My body is just built more for muscle than for being skinny. My frame supports a good amount of muscle with wide shoulders and large chest. Mostly I need to keep burning off the fat around my belly, but even still I have passed the tape test for the military with ease.
I have decided to add biking and maybe swimming to my workout to help with knee issues and hopefully to work more muscles and lose more weight. I hope to see about 1 pound per week. Wish me luck and best of luck with your goals as well.0
