I'm new to this site, and I know with Weight Watchers you don't count your veggie calories. I was going to roast some veggies tonight and wanted to know if I should count those or not?

I was talking to my doctor about this Friday, and she said veggies were practically "free" foods. So im wondering, if i should count them or not also...

Yes, here they should be logged. So should fruits. I know this is sometimes a big change for folks coming off WW, but you do need to log them here.

I meticulously weigh and count everything. Except for black coffee and green tea.

Generally I would agree with the 'if you eat it, log it' comments. Of course, as long as you aren't loading them with butter, they will generally have few calories and it probably won't affect your numbers greatly.

I would recommend logging them anyways if for no other reason to look back and say "wow, I really ate a lot of good for me veggies!"

I'd log them. Of course, I log everything I consume (or at least a close equivalent if it's not on here. i.e. a hamburger from a local mom and pop restaurant).

It has all been said if you eat it log it! Those little bits of calories can add up quick, and you dont want to cheat yourself.

I generally stir-fry 4-5 veggies for dinner, and find it a bit tedious. So, I generally have a handful of each, weigh them all together, then either log them all as raw broccoli, or count each one as 1/4 or 1/5 of the total. That goes for anything with under 25 calories per 90 grams, like broccoli, asparagus, bok choy, onions, peppers, carrots, squash, bean sprouts. Higher-calorie items, like sugar snap peas, are weighed and logged separately. Fruits can really add up, so I highly recommend logging them accurately, including assessing the size correctly.
  • I say always log it but if you are going to go over just because of veggies, eat them anyway. That is my philosopy. I dont believe not eating plain veggies just b/c you may go over. They are great for you so eat them but log them;)

depends what vegies... i allow myself to eat as much as i want of things like carrot, pumpkin, broccoli, cauliflower, salad vegies etc, but potatoes are totally not included in that. But i'm not a big calorie counter. I tend to go on the size of the meal (and make an effort to make it a healthy meal) and my night time meal is between 350g - 400g in weight as opposed to trying to count the calories. I try to have about 100g of meat and 100g of carbs and the rest is vegies...

It's working for me so far.

and roasted vegies should definitely be counted if you are using oil to roast them in otherwise you are decieving yourself that there are no calories in them.
  • U have to log in everything that u eat and drink

I think it’s unfortunate that vegetables are not charted on WW. It makes it appear that they are free, or worse, throw away foods. It discounts their value, and makes them seem non-essential. Logging vegetables is not just about calories. Vegetables have many nutrients and all-important fiber. If you wanted to run a report on say the amount of Vitamin C or iron you were getting, it would be inaccurate if you failed to log your vegetables.
