Measurements To Hide or Not To Hide

I'm going to have my husband help me with my measurements tonight. I'm really nervous about them, and part of me wants my husband not to show them to me right away.
So the Questions are:
1. How often do you do your measurements?
2. Should I have my hubby hold on to the original measurements until the first time I re-measure so I can see some progress before I freak out!
Hmmm...

Seeing those numbers might give you that extra motivation that you need to take this seriously! Look at the numbers!0

Measure once a month, or when you change up your program.
And post them on the fridge! You shouldn't be afraid of them. They are who you are (but NOT who you want to be). Post them up as motivation. I even tell all of my clients to take before pictures and post them to Facebook and to hang them up. People already see you as you are so they know what you look like, but every time You see YOU it'll give you a little boost to get on track.0 -
I did mine after about fifteen pounds, it was a pretty big change. (About one inch per five pounds.)
I wouldn't do it more than once a month because of human error, but go wild, I suppose!0 -
Before and After pics.. do you do them in your unmentionablesor in your regular clothes? I need to do that tonight and I'm nervous about that too.. maybe post a before on my fridge too!
Thank you for all the good advice!

I measure about once a month. I view the measurements the same way I view the scale. It's just a number, and once you know what it is, you can start working to improve it.0

EDIT TO ADD: I take measurements every 4 weeks, pictures as I see fit (taken in shorts and a sports bra), and I weigh every day (as I can/feel like it) but my official weigh-in day is Saturdays.0 -
I think you have to really think about whether knowing that actual numbers will inspire you or depress you. If you think they may depress you, let someone else keep the actual numbers and report changes to you, so you only know that you've lost or gained x pounds and y inches. It's really up to you whether you want the 'full story' or only 'progress reports'.0

I completely agree with the picture Idea. The first time I lost weight I had a fat picture og me on my frig so everytime I went to get something to eat I had to look at it. It really help me to make better choice. Once I lost all my weight, I keep the fat picture on the frig but put the skinny picture next to it as a reminder of how far I had come. It stayed there for 2 year and the whole time I keep my weight off. It is funny because once I took it down I started gaining again. HUMM I think I need to go find that picture. LOL0

I never hide from mine. They were ugly but they are what they are and if I didn't have ugly measurements I wouldn't be trying to change them!
I do mine once a month and they are usually pretty darn motivating! Even if there wasn't a big change, there is always a change! And they add up over time so don't discount the smaller ones. There is nothing more encouraging than taking your tape measure and holding it around your waist at the numbers you "used" to be when you started several months earlier and seeing a big gap between you and the tape! When I get discouraged, that's what I do and it reminds me of how far I've already come.
Stare them right in the face and tell them their days are numbered cause they're going down!!0 -
Thank you all!! Off I go to take those pics and measurements!!0

Since I only get to weigh once a month (only more if I go to the doc), I measure every week. I've been doing it for a month and it's definitely encouraging. In one month, I've lost 4 inches off my waist, 2 off my hips and only 1/2 an inch from my bust.0
