Hi MFP friends,
I posted yesterday that I was looking for a calorie monitor instrument. I was wondering if anyone can comment on any of the two products? After looking and researching, I think I'm either choose one or the other. I really like what the polar watch has to offer (tracking on fat burning or fitness) and it a very attractive watch! At the same time, the sportsband seem to be a more moderately priced item but it looks more like a hospital band, haha. I am sure to get the purple one if I go with this. Still, I am looking for quality! I have read positive things about both. Any advice is welcome. THANK YOU!

Polar has a really great line of HR monitoring watches. They were the first, they are the leaders and the have the most variety of watches.

For someone new to HR monitoring, the FT7 is a great choice for counting calories and it will upload all of your data online (with the optional flow link). If you would like to add GPS, Strength Training and a visual HR monitor ticker, the FT80 is a great choice. I have been using these for the past 18 months and they are a key to my success.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions!

I have been using the Polar FT4 for a couple of months and am very happy with it, although it cost £70 here in the UK. It has 4 display screens that will show:

    1 - H rate in large numbers
2 - Training zone min & max with H rate shown
3 - Time, date, duration of exercise
    4 - Calories burned

I am 49 this month and bought it out of concern that I might over rev my heart, therefore making training counter productive (dying is bad for your fitness) the FT4 gives me confidence when exercising, and if I max out on my HR I will slow down a bit. Also great to track calories burned...

    good luck,

    David

iI just got done shopping these items out pretty extensively.

It seemed the Nike+ was more aimed at the younger runners being more chic and cool. I admit it does look cool but a lot of people I know have seemed to have issues with it being correct in readings. Also a few people including one MFP'er mentioned that when the sensor is in the shoe pod you can feel it and its awkward. The only other thing I heard from someone at the gym was the usb connector and the fact he sweats like mad. He said when that got wet he had to wait and let it dry out before he could upload.

I have had experience with some polar items in the past. They make one of the best HRM you can get. I cannot not remember the model but it was close to if not over 100 bucks.

Now I use the Garmin Fore runner 405 with HRM strap. Thus far I have no complaints. I do love how easy it is to use and it auto uploads when you get within range of your pc. I also love GPS which the Fore R has.
