Hi everyone!

I actually joined MFP toward the end of last year, full of good intentions, but what with one thing and another (not least, contracting Swine 'Flu, which knocked me for six for ages), I've not really done much to change my lifestyle until now. Maybe it's the realisation that spring is finally upon us, or maybe I have finally reached my limit!

Over the past eight years, my weight has gradually crept up and up, until here I am now, 62lbs heavier than I was when my partner and I first met in 2003. Every day he tells me that I am the most beautiful woman in the world, but I just don't feel it. I don't like what I am seeing in the mirror (the overall appearance), and I so want to like what I see.

I'd also really like to feel less achey and cumbersome - I'm sure the aches have something to do with the extra weight I'm carrying.

The most difficult part for me has been admitting there is an issue. I've always been hard on myself, so admitting I am overweight because of my own actions makes me feel like a huge failure in some ways. However, the time has come for change!

I am setting myself small goals but I'd like to be somewhere near my target weight of 161lbs (I'm 5'10", so this is ideal for me) by Christmas. I can do it if I lose a steady 2lbs a week, but I do realise that the closer I get to target, the more likely I am to plateau.

I also know that I start things with a bang, and the longer they drag on, the less enthusiastic I become, so I am hoping to find people who are willing to support me, and who I can support in turn (I'm very good at motivating others!).

I'm in the UK, in Northants, so if there's anyone on MFP from around these parts who wants to buddy up, I'd be especially pleased. I'm happy to buddy up with people from other locales too!

So that's it - me laid bare....in a manner of speaking!

Good luck with your weight loss, I found that making friends and supporting each other really helped to keep me motivated and on track where ordinarily I would have given up. I'm in S. Wales, so not that close, but feel free to add me as a friend if you want to.:flowerforyou:
  • Aww, I hope you stay motivated for good this time. I've also had that problem, until probably last week when I decided to get in control. I'm in the U.S but you can add me as well. Good Luck! =)

I know exactly how you feel. I've been yo'yoing for ages. I went from a low of 137 in 2004 to a high of 224 about a month ago. I'm 219.5 this morning. I've been everywhere in between, but gained weight all last year. It was very discouraging. But I'm rededicated because at 33, I'm at a critical point, I think, in my life with regards to fitness.

Horrid, isn't it? We seem to be in a similar boat... Want to be chums?
