Okay, since I've been on this website I've started to realize a pattern. I do really well and then right around my well umm..."Visitor" I get so freaking hungary!! Like I want to eat everything in sight and I have a really hard time which then negates some of my hard work. Is there a supplement that can help curve it?

This never fullly goes away, but here are some things I've noticed that help.
Stay hydrated. Especiallly during the happy bloating time, this helps with both cramps and crankiness.
Keep exercising. I take one period-induced day off, but even on that day I try to get in a leisurely walk or something.
Eat complex carbohydrates and plenty of protein. For whatever reason, this is the time I find it helps to indulge in more meat than I might usually eat.
From what I've read, your body has a drop in serotonin production during this time. Complex carbs help with this.
And, if all else fails, I have some high-quality dark chocolate and then go for a walk to get away from the kitchen!:flowerforyou:0 -
I have the EXACT same problem. I want chocolate chocolate chocolate! I have become much better at tracking my "friend", so the week before I understand what is going on and I can try to control it. I am going to try all of viviakay's recommendations this month, and hope it helps. Also, there will be a natural fluctuation in your weight around that time, so don't panic and think you gained 3 pounds, it could be water. Good Luck!0

I find that the "hunger" at that time is something I experience also. The hunger subsides as soon as I am past the second day. I think I have to be prepared for this every month and change my diet for those two days. Like Vivia said...maybe some whole grain bread or a small portion of brown rice may help. I may try an herbal tea...because my hunger seems to strike after dinner.

Oh, me too, me too! I have learned to recognize it, though so I am trying to reign it in, but it is very difficult, so I usually wind up just exercising MORE around that time so if I splurge it doesn't destroy me.0

I'm especially hungry for chocolate... chocolate anything! bars, ice cream...yum
I tend to give into hershey kisses but I mostly stay away from chocolate ice cream.
My favorite is Milky Ways, but I found 100 calorie bars in Milky Ways, Snickers, 3 Muskateers and I think one more but I can't think of it.
Good points viviakay!0 -
Glad to know I'm not the only one! I don't think in the past I really realized what a huge impact it had.
I do naturally seem to crave carbs during that time, so maybe just picking the right kinds would help. I'm going to try the meat thing too, because I don't eat a ton of meat usually. Maybe it will keep me away from other nemesis SWEETS Thanks for the advice!0 -
I've tried to stay on a pretty low-glycemic index diet (basically I just cut any sort of white bread, rice, or flour products) and I've really found my craving for sweets go down. That said, chewing on gum or sucking on sugar-free jolly ranchers sometimes does the trick!0

ARen't we lucky......:noway:
I have protein shakes everyday, but sometimes I crave more chocolate at night... and at those times I add an additional shake and eat a fiber one chocolate chip bar. My total calories is 110 for the shake and 140 for the bar and it fills me up and I stay at only 250 calories and I don't feel guilty like I would if I had a candy bar, cake or ice cream...0 -
I always crave Chocolate on it, its like I can't get enough  OH the "JOY" of being a woman!0

Your body chemistry changes significantly during the week that your cycle comes. Small studies have shown a link between food cravings during this week, but larger studies are inconclusive. The facts:
Your body boosts its metabolism during your period
Chocolate tends to boast a cocoa/milk balance that your body craves naturally
Your body senses a loss of blood
A loss in blood results in a higher heart rate. Those of us with a heart rate monitor know that the higher the heart rate, the higher the calories burned.
Some studies show up to a 200 calorie boost for each day during the week that they menstruate.
It is common for women to notice a weight plateau during the week of menstruating, then a significant loss at the week's end (3-8 pounds)
**************
I try to take advantage of the increased metabolism, drink more water and eat the same amount of food. I'm one of the ones that has a plateau then a 3 pound loss at the end of the week.0
