Good Morning All,
Over the past month i have been having lots of issues with my Blood Pressue due to the medication being stronger than needed. I tracked my BP over a two week period will all checks way below normal I went to my Doc last Thursday and was removed from BP and diuretic I was on. (VICTORY) I weighed in Saturday morning after a 7 mile run at 227. I weighed in this morning at 235. (DEFEAT) Did the diuretic make a 8 lbs differnece in two days? Will the weight continue to go up or will it pleatau at some point?

Its REALLY frustrating becuase last week I had my toughest week of workouts ever getting ready for my first half marathon in a few weeks. Its almost worth the occasional dizzyness to stop the weight gain, bums me to see the scale go the wrong way buy such a large margin!

I'm in the same boat. I lose around 2-3 pounds between the evening and the morning because of the diuretic, but I gain a couple back the next day from drinking water. Consider your higher weight to be your actual weight and then work down from that. I'm about to see my doctor about removing me from it, since the dizzyness is getting worse being on it and my BP is a lot lower.

Are getting enough water? How dependable is your scale? Did anything change in your diet?

When my dr put me on diuretic she said I would lose water weight. But I didn't since I wasn't holding water like I was over a year ago. Last year is when she should of put me on them but she didn't. Last year my ankles and feet swelled up almost all the time, and I told her about it then, But this year my ankles and feet no longer swell up all the time and that was before she put me on those pills this year.
  • unfortuantely yes.. the diuretic can do that. Especially if you have been on it for a while. Your body needs some time to adjust and isn't sure how to get rid of the extra fluid on its own. Watch your sodium.. and I mean really watch it. I try to keep mine about 2000 or below. Also you will need to drink a lot more water than you are used too.
  • It may make a little difference but not that much, the extra work outs you did to get ready for the run may have built more muscle and as we all know muscle weighs more than fat. I am in the same situation with my BP and my doctor keeps lowering my meds, I do hope at some point to come off of them but since I have been battling it since I was 19 I figure it will eventually come back anyway.

Keep working at it and believe it or not eat more! The more you exercise the more you need the fuel, I have found that Pure Protein bars are a great way to add the protein and calories and you get a bit of chocolate too!!!
