What works for you?

I lost over 30lbs last year and then got busy with work and sorta "fell off the horse" if you will. I've gained about 8lbs of it back which is really frustrating. More frustrating though, is that I am having trouble getting things to "click" this time around....
So - I am looking for some motivation & inspiration!!
Tell me what is one rule/the main thing you follow when going thru this journey.
I don't care if it's food related, excercise tips or mental prompts - just tell me what's working for you!!

Realize that it takes time. You can't build a wall overnight. But if you do your best every day to lay that one brick as perfectly as you can, your end result is going to be great.0

Don't beat yourself up over your missteps and celebrate your victories. It is the journey, not the destination that is important.0

One thing I do is make myself get up and workout.....even if I don't want to. However, if my body is completely exhausted I listen to it and rest.
I also refuse to give up all the foods that I love. I eat pretty much whatever I want as long as it is in moderation. This keeps me from falling completely off the wagon.0 -
I always make exercise a part of my day. It has become habit so now if I don't I feel off for the day. Make it non negotiable and try to get it done early. Don't think about it too much. Alot of people talk themselves out of working out and you just have to say - this is what I am doing and I have no choice. Once you do it for awhile you don't even question it anymore.
Plus - find something you like to do. I love kickboxing so I found a great at home DVD set that I enjoy so it doesn't feel like working out and I mix it up. I get bored easily so I have to switch things around.

I allow myself to have "treats" when I feel I want them. I try not to over do and try to find substitutions (hot chocolate with milk instead of chocolates) but ometimes I just NEED the real thing! I have found that if I don't allow myself to have the treats, I eventually will just not care and over indulge/binge at one sitting. I have managed to stay within my calorie range since starting MFP except for a couple days in the very beginning. Also, I always leave yesterday behind and start fresh everyday. I find exercise when and where I can and give my self days off each week.
I amd oing this as a life style change, something I can live with forever, not just as something to lose the weight now. I want to keep it off and maintain a healthier lifestyle.
I cut myself some slack, accept I will not be perfect everyday, and do my best.0 -
One thing I had to tell myself a lot in the beginning was just to keep going, even if I didn't feel like I was making any progress. It doesn't matter what you weigh today. It doesn't matter what size you are today. It only matters what you are GOING to weigh and what size you are GOING to be when you are done. All you have to do is NOT quit.0

I was kind of like you last year and just couldn't get motivated (I've done this so many times before). So I decided instead of going full strength I would just start out slow. I decided to just make a commitment to exercise 10 minutes a day 3X a week. I figured I could do that. Well of course I did that the first week and then just got the motivation to do more and more. Don't put too much pressure on yourself and you know once you start to do it you'll feel better and the motivation will come. The exercise was what I was struggling with. That's why I decided not to do my usual 5 days a week, 60 minutes a day at first and then fail It was too overwhelming to think about. Good luck.0
