Hello, my names mike
well the reason i post is simply Im curious if my routine is too much or if theres anyone else up at my level??
MWFSat I run 30 mins (5mph! pace) in the mornings and 45 mins eliptical doing 7 miles at night.
Tue thur sun i do chisel(body pump) for 55-60 mins at night and then run 30 mins following and as of tonight i added 4 laps sprit my *kitten* off straights and walk curves.
Sun i also play basketball for about 2 hours(my day off from work)
included in all that i work 10 hour days 6 days a week because im in the AF and im deployed.(im an electricain so im on my feet 90% of the day) and i walk alot during the day..
do you think thats extreme?? i am constantly sore but i love the pain because im watching spartacus and i want their body so im determined!
Also i only eat 1000 cals if that... and ive been doing it for 3.5 months now and ive lost 29 lbs and im never hungry!

Sounds a lot but you're obviously a fit guy.
I'd say listen to your body but maybe consider eating more?0 -
That'ts really bad for your body. You can work out that much, but you need to be eating more. You will gain all of that weight right back when you stop working out. I promise. It's called the set point theory (or "starvation mode"). You're body wants to maintain a weight but it gives up after being deprived and starts eating your lean muscle. Anything you eat is stored as fat. If you keep it up, it literally could kill you. Your heart is a muscle and if you lose too much too fast and your body starts feeding on your muscles, you can have a heart attack. Eat more.
Also, it's not a competition. No one has to be "up at your level" and to say that is almost insulting. Most people here bust their A$$es everday (me included). I could probably outrun you if this is your weekly workout; however, I'm not going to post things to brag about how "intense" my workouts are.
Most of us are here to get HEALTHY. It takes time.
That being said, please eat more. Your body can't function properly on 1000 calories a day0 -

its only for the 6 months im here.. when i get home im gonna continue my workout as tough as i am now.. but im gonna increase my food by another 1000 cals.
im only doin it to get down to 160 and then maintain when i get there.. even if i gain 10lbs to make my body "healthy" and lose that 10 lbs the healthy way..
trust me my weight has gone up and down the past 2 years.. i was overweight before basic training.. got in damn good shape.. then got lazy(on my own for the 1st time)... got overweight and now im getting back down.0 -

I'd guess that (especially) with only 24 pounds to go to your desired weight/bf%, you need to be eating at least twice what you are in clean calories, possibly more.0

but i do run a 11 20 mile 1/2 for my pt test..
but longer distance i relax and try not to push too too hard.. until the sprints.!0 -

i dont eat dinner simply cuz i get off at 5pm and im in the gym till 7pm and i dont like to eat after 7 because i go to sleep around 8-90 -
The exercise may be a bit overboard, but if you enjoy it and do it properly (ie not risking injury), that's up to you.
However, your nutrition is what will cause you problems. Likely a large amount of the weight you have lost is lean mass, not fat. Extreme caloric restriction comes with many risks, including but not limited to: loss of muscle, hair/skin problems, gallstones, arrhythmias, kidney/liver issues, weight regain, fatigue and permanent organ damage.
I'd recommend reading these threads that help explain metabolism and why it's important to fuel the body properly.

Edit to add: MFP creates a built in deficit, regardless of exercise. If you do not replace the cals added for exercise, you make that deficit larger, and too large of a deficit increases loss of lean mass. Here are a couple more threads that discuss how MFP works. I REALLY recommend reading them, as they can help determine a healthy deficit. What you've been doing is NOT healthy. :flowerforyou:

the body doesn't work like that. it has to be a steady weight loss for anything to stick. if you increase your calories you will gain weight. especially after 6 months.0 -
You may find that you'll lose weight faster if you eat more. It is also quite possible that some of that weight you are losing is muscle as your body is burning that instead of fat.0

The reason your weight goes up and down is adaptive thermogenesis (aka starvation mode). When you severely restrict calories like that, your metabolism decreases. So when you DO start eating more normally, your body will increase fat stores to compensate, making you gain weight even if you are not overeating. Again, I recommend reading the threads I posted to understand how metabolism works.0 -

im trying to eat more.. its just really hard overseas.. maybe not for all but for me it is. ill try to eat 3 small meals tomorrow and go from there..
i just really want to get down to 160 before JUNE bad! real bad!0 -

Well, it most certainly wouldn't be "for nothing", but I understand how you feel. Have you considered seeking out some body building forums outside of MFP, in addition to tracking your intake/exercise here? You might find a lot of really specific advice for lowering your bf% to the athletic range while building lean mass there.0 -

I have a friend who restricted her calories majorly and lost a ton of weight. At first she was hungry but when her body adapted to her new eating schedule (of eating dinner only) the hunger went away. It's not natural to not get hungry every few hours.. that's how you know your metabolism isn't working properly. Her body has SO much excess skin. She lost probably as much weight as me in less then half the time and I feel I look much healthier and have been told so by others (which is probably due to the foods i choose to eat as well). It's your choice how you want to lose weight and I'm sure it feels great that it's coming off so quickly. But losing slowly makes it stick. Good luck!

I would definitely say increase the calories...I eat at least 1500 a day on NON workout days. Eventually your body will stop losing weight due to that amount of activity.0

My husband is in the navy so I understand your healthy food choices are slim to none. Just try to keep it healthy where you can. Also take a vitamin and maybe add a protein shake supplement to your diet.0

i understand that completely.. im not doin this forever.. im just doin it for my deployment..
when i get home im changing my life. eating all my cals and still working out just as hard.
ill probley gain 10-15 lbs.. but id rather gain them at 160 and be 175 than gain 15 now and be 200 again
and i do take protein!!
i take jack3d b4 workouts xtend during and pure protein(50 grams) apple vial after workouts.
also im about to order some protein shakes for snacks during the day as well0 -

I understand - I was in the military, Navy - on a ship for 3 years. And that was almost 20 years ago when the food they served was even worse than it is now! :laugh: Very hard to eat healthy. But it can be done most of the time. Go for lean proteins, fruits/veggies and some good whole grains when possible. Also, might try ordering some protein bars/powders to have sent in the mail if possible (or have family send you some.)
I also understand the impatience. But trust me, I've heard (especially from guys) time and again that they REALLY regret dropping weight fast because they end up "skinny fat" with very poor body fat percentage and very little lean muscle mass. It is much easier to maintain the lean mass and lose fat slowly than to lose all the fat (and muscle) quickly and then try to rebuild the muscle.0
