Have any of you been to Destin, FL? Can you please give me some good recommendations on cheap hotels/motels to stay at? I don't care about being directly on the beach. It can be across the street or close by. I've looked at the Holiday Inn and another hotel and they are way too expensive for me. I'll be in Destin for 4 or 5 days and I'll mostly be spending my time on the beach with my future husband. We are going to Destin for our honeymoon next year.

Also, if any of you can recommend good places to eat at, shop, explore, etc. Let me know!! Thanks in advance!!! :flowerforyou:

We spend every winter in Destin in our RV. It's a great area but anything close to the beach is going to cost you. How much are you looking to spend? The time of year makes a difference in price too. March and the summer months are their peak times when prices go up.

There are tons of fabulous restaurants. What kind of food do the two of you like? There is also fabulous shopping. There is a huge outlet mall if you like brand name stuff.

Edited to add - there are a couple of beautiful state parks to do some hiking if that is your thing. They also have a great board walk to walk along.
  • Well Destin and Panama City Beach are really close and you will find much better deals in PCB. We are about 3.5 hours from there and go about 4-5 times a year.
I love PCB as there is so much to do there, the beach is awesome, lots of great shopping and restaurants and you can visit Destin during the day if you want, very short drive!

We are going in May. My fiance is very picky, but most restaurants have chicken entrees and he'll eat that! I was hoping to not spend more than $60 per night at a hotel. We won't really be doing much shopping as I don't like shopping all that much, but I do like window shopping if that makes any sense? lol I just don't like to spend a lot of money on myself.

I agree, we stay in Miramar Beach which is beautiful but expensive. Look to PCB or Fort Walton Beach for better deals. $60 a night is tough in the middle of Kansas. I don't know that you'll find anything close to the ocean at that price in May. You may have luck if you call the hotels directly and explain the situation, tell them it's your honeymoon and see if they can offer a deal.

I didn't want to go to PCB because of all the party/night life. We don't like to party and be around lots of partying people. I've asked dozens of people who have visited and who live in Destin, PCB, Pensacola & Jacksonville which they thought was the best & especially for a honeymoon & relaxed environment and 90% said Destin is the best beach in FL besides Ft. Walton & Perdidio Key. So, Destin is the only place we are staying.

When I do a search I can only find one hotel that would fit your price range. The reviews aren't too bad. It's a Motel 6. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g34182-d244062-Reviews-Motel_6_Destin-Destin_Florida.html It is within walking distance of lots of restaurants and shopping. It will be a fair walk to the beach. There are lots of public areas to park and access the beach in Destin/Miramar Beach/Fort Walton area.

Pixietoes - we stay in Miramara Beach too. At the Destin RV Beach Resort. Where do you stay?

I just found a few places with good reviews. Summer Place Inn is 3 blocks from the beach & is $48 per night. Wingate by Wyndham is across from the beach & is $55 per night.

    I'm going to keep looking...

The Wingate is farther from the beach according to this map http://maps.google.com/ Is that the one you are looking at?

I think I'm just going to suck it up and spend the whatever for the Holiday Inn and only stay 2 nights then maybe visit somewhere else. My fiance would love to go to Las Vegas so maybe we could stay in Destin for 2 days then catch a plane to Las Vegas for 2 days/nights and head back home to NOLA. I've got lots of planning to do & it's hard when most places will only allow you to book so far in advance... Especially planes.

Thanks for all of your help...

We're just going to go to Las Vegas in Feb since flights are cheaper and that's when we are getting married anyways. We are going to go to Destin in Sept/Oct for my birthday. Hotel prices seem to be way cheaper during those months.

    Again, thanks!

I've never been to Las Vegas, but I heard it's fun even if you don't like to gamble or party. I hope that's true! lol
