Hey everyone, I just need some support and ideas. I've always struggled with eating at a certain "time." When it's dinner time, I want to eat, even though I'm not hungry. Just looking for some ideas of things to do instead of eating when the munchies strike!
Thanks

    Calisthetics!
    Do some arm circles.
Grab some small weights and life.
    Do leg raises.
    Crunches.
Anything to get you active instead!

I chew gum. My hard time is in the evening when I am watching TV. I just want to munch on something. I find that if I keep my hands busy...knitting, cross-stitching...then I don't eat as much.

Drink some water or exercise. I always HATED it when people suggested drinking water to me when I thought I was hungry. I wanted to just scream at them, "I'm not thirsty; I'm HUNGRY, you moron!" I'm not much of a drinker... I can literally go days without having a sip of water, juice, soda. Nothing, NADA. (Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm constantly dehydrated.) Anyways, I've just started forcing down 8 cups of water a day, and I've noticed a MAJOR difference in my appetite. I don't feel like I'm starving during the day. I've stopped thinking about food all the time when I'm trying to concentrate on my school work. It works... It really works. And, exercise is a great appetite suppressant.... at least for a while. An hour or two later, you can expect to be famished! :)

And, if you're not against artificial sweeteners, I'd also suggest a cup of coffee with a tablespoon or so of low-cal creamer and a few packets of splenda. It's really helped me when I'm about to reach for a candy bar that I know won't fit in my calorie goal for the day. I've found that I'm just craving something sweet; I'm not really hungry, so it doesn't matter what it is.
  • It's spring cleaning time. Keep yourself busy doing projects around the house...crevice, clean the lights, blinds, ceiling fans,etc...switch out your winter/summer clothes and shoes...etc.
One other thing I do is paint my fingernails...if they are wet, it keeps me from using them for mindless eating.

One of the best ways I stay on my diet is to keep myself busy, During the week I keep busy with work, but on weekends, holidays, vacations and when i get home from work I keep myself busy with knitting, crocheting, embroidery, sewing, quilting, taking the dogs for a walk, cleaning, gardening, making jewelry, washing the car or anything that keeps my hands or mind busy ,

Thanks so much for all the ideas!! I made a list of little projects and taped them to my refrigerator :) It'll remind me to do something besides eat, and I'll have the cleanest house in the neighborhood :)
